Question HDPVR Audio Lag Issue

I've been having an audio sync problem some some time now and it seems to be getting worse now. When playing from the HDPVR I will occasionally experience a "blip", a distorted line that scans down the screen from top to bottom. This happens for only one frame from what I can tell. When this happens the audio lag ever so slightly. This happens every 30 sec to minute and each time it happens the audio lags farther behind.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this?
Can this be the sign of a dying HDPVR?

- HDPVR Rev E1 using Component video and Optical Audio
- This also happens when viewing with Total Media Extreme so I don't think that Sage is the issue.
- Tried different drivers and it has no impact.
- Tried different formats out of my cable box and has no impact

If the HDPVR did work fine at one time, then it's probably the power supply going bad. There is a thread or two around where some folks are wiring the HDPVR directly into their computer's power supply.

Oh yea. Forgot about that.

Could be bad cables as well, causing enough of a loss of quality to lose sync, or be susceptible to some other interference causing the same. I know I, on just a few recordings, had a loss of sync between luminance and chrominance that the HD-PVR never recovered from for the rest of that recording. Only seen it twice, but losing sync would cause both that AND potentially your blip issue. Might try physically routing the cables differently, away from power cables and such.

I'll give it a try

Tried rerouting with different cables....same result.

I also tried switching from optical to RCA for audio and that did not change anything. Still getting that blip every few minutes with a progressive worse audio lag. I'm thinking it's just a bad HDPVR.

I may just bite the bullet and get another one. Any suggestions on what to get or should I just go with another HDPVR?

Maybe get a quick system image, then uninstall HDPVR software/drivers, then run Hauppauge's hcwClear.exe, and install the latest drivers/software.

You can usually grab a mildly used HD-PVR 1212 on Ebay pretty cheap these days (I see one right now for $38 + $5 shipping). Most of them it seems were used to record gaming, and even then probably nowhere near the use of a typical Sage user.

Yep - tried hcwClear and a bunch of different version drivers.
Thanks for the suggestion on eBay. I'll take a look.....and I thought the only people that used these things were Sage people

If you were really looking to see if the device was bad prior to purchasing a new one, you could temporarily hook it up to another computer and see if it still exhibits the problem.

I was going to mention this too. I think I've replaced the one on my original HD-PVR twice. Usually with some DLink router adapter.

Thumbs up Solved

Just an update for anyone interested...It seems that my cable box was actually causing the lag issue. I swapped the SA4250 out with the Samsung unit and the lag seems to have gone away.
