OT - 2 computers, 2 monitors, 1 keyboard & mouse
Trying to set up a home office for when I work from home.
Would have Home PC, Work Laptop, 2 monitors, and 1 keyboard & mouse. Would like to figure a way to have the following possibilities: 1. Work laptop - dual monitor, keyboard & mouse 2. Home PC - dual monitor, keyboard & mouse 3. Work laptop - 1 monitor with keyboard & mouse, other monitor displaying Home PC 4, Home PC - 1 monitor with keyboard & mouse, other monitor displaying Work Laptop Any suggestions? Tried looking for som KVM but haven't found any that can do the 4 scenarios. Switch can be either mechanical or hotkey switchable, doesn't matter to me. |

Set the home PC up with the dual monitor, keyboard and mouse. When you want to use your work laptop, connect it to your home network and use Remote Desktop from your home PC to control it.

I just ditched my two 24" monitors for a single 34" curved monitor from Dell. I love it!
It supports dual inputs, including showing two sources on the screen in 50/50 split mode, and allows you to share the keyboard and mouse with multiple inputs. I'm not sure if the mouse and keyboard would support scenario 4. I would recommend reading the manual for the model - Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor U3415W.

Assuming the 2 computers have usb 3.0, perhaps using something like this:http://www.amazon.com/iClever-Supers.../dp/B00L3Z15Z0
So essentially all peripherals (both monitors, mouse, keyboard, ethernet, etc.) is plugged into this universal docking station and single usb 3.0 connects computer to this. I have successfully used this with 2 dell u2415 monitors (and the third laptop screen) simultaneously. Hopefully, the Displaylink drivers for this would be allowed to be installed. Then something like this to switch between the computers (no drivers for these necessary)http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Shari.../dp/B00JX3Q28Y This solution replaced my old PS/2 kvm switch. See this video: https://youtu.be/dYy0tdMworg Then assuming the monitors have a second video input, you could connect those directly to the appropriate pc directly for case 3&4? Hope this helps, Topper.
