Can I run an open source client with a licensed server?

Hi,

Is it possible to connect an installation of the open source v9 client to an installation of a licensed v7.1.9 server?

I have done so, and the client just says it can't find the server (though my other, licensed clients connect fine)

I used the installer at https://bintray.com/opensagetv/sagetv/SageTV/view to upgrade the client. The method in the FAQ here gave me a Java exception error. This install doesn't give the error, but can't find the server

Thanks

The version numbers have to be the same. Ex. a V9 client cannot connect to a V7 Server.

Edit: With that being said. Just put the new JAR for V9 on your V7 Server, and you'll be fine. You can get it here (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...5&postcount=90)
It's simple, place two files where the post says, and start your server up. You could also try the installer, but the file method will get the job done.

That post is from August of last year. Is there a way to determine if the links in his post are pointing to the latest version? And will any of the new versions ever be anything beyond beta versions? I also see that he recommends backing up the sage directory prior to upgrading to v9, which is great in case something goes bad right from the get-go. However, after even just a few days of running v9, I think it would be very difficult to go back to v7. Maybe I'll wait to upgrade during the summer, when the recording schedule is much lighter...

Thanks all. I guess I'm going to have to upgrade the server and the other clients as well, although I was trying to avoid that (if it ain't broke, don't fix it kind of thing)

I'll try the new JAR files and keep my fingers crossed that I don't run into the same Java error I got when I tried the "replace the files" upgrade method originally

The easy answer is to not update anything if you don't want to update the server. It's not like there are any big functionality/feature changes in V9 so far.

I just moved from a flat to a house... I need to add a new client for the new 2nd loungeroom/family room, but I only have enough licenses for my existing server and clients
