Running SageTV at Windows startup (as a service)

I know this question must have been asked before, but I my searches aren't finding any results.

How do we make SageTV run automatically when Windows restarts? I'm using Windows 10, and I'm running SageTV as a service. The SageTV service is set to "automatic" in my Services control panel, but that doesn't seem to do it.

You might want to check your Event Log. It may be starting up and then facing some sort of issue.

There's also a setting in Setup | Detailed Setup| Advanced at the top to Load at Windows Startup.

Do I still use that even if I'm running SageTV as a service (and don't need the UI to be running on the computer)?

Nope.

I ended up creating a batch file named StartSrv.bat to start the SageTV service at user login. On Win 10 I set up autologon using my user id and password.

I then set up a scheduled task named Sage Startup to execute the StartSrv.bat file after user logon. (dot in Run Only when user is logged on, using my user id and password, and checked box to Run with highest privileges.)

Sample StartSrv.bat file:
Code:
timeout 20
net start SageTV
I added the timeout command so, if needed, I could have an opportunity to bail before starting the service.

What version of SageTV Service are you running on Win10? Is this a Win10 specific issue as I have not had any troubles getting 9.0.4.220 to auto start as a service in all my testing but I have yet to test it on windows 10.

The installer creates the service but sets it to manual and then using the SageTV Service Control application I am able to set it to Enabled and run it and then on restart it starts up (again...not tried by me on Win 10 yet).

I never had an issue with my Win 7/Sage 7 pcs. This was the only solution I found for Win 10 and Sage 9. I never tried Sage 7 on the Win 10 pc so it could have something to do with the Sage 9 install, but I suspect it's more likely a Win 10 privileges issue.

I used the installer when it came out to help beta test - 9.0.3.214 beta 002 and then 9.0.4.224 beta 003 32 bit.

I've always used a batch file at windows startup to do some routine maintenance and then net start SageTV. Never ran it automatically - always and still set to manual.

I don't remember ever trying it as automatic.

EDIT: Did try automatic so that does work OK now. I had an issue running net start from the batch file also until I did it as described above. And I think that was a permissions thing in Win 10.

It would be a great test to temp disable your batch and use the sagetv service control app to enable and start the service and see if it works.

I will also set up a win 10 vm and test it out too.
