Adding Videos that don't add automatically?
Hello!
I'm probably overlooking something very obvious but I can't figure out how to do it. With SageMyMovies no longer really working, I have been using the standard "Videos" menu to watch my DVDs I copy to disc. I've created a layout that looks very similar to what I had in SageMyMovies so all is good. But, titles are only added so long as titles match up adequately/exactly, when I copy a DVD to a drive that I monitor for importing, they show up with fan and cover art no problem using the folder structure like... e:\Movies\Title1\VIDEO_TS\ e:\Movies\Title2\VIDEO_TS\ and so on However, what I can't figure out, is how to add titles manually to my "Videos" menu that aren't added automatically. For example, when I have a folder that looks like "e:\Movies\Game of Thrones S03D01\VIDEO_TS" I get nothing in my Videos menu area for this DVD. Is there a way I can add this DVD manually? Thanks! |

Yes, you can with BMT. However, for discs with episodic content (like TV episodes) I find it much more convenient to rip each episode to it's own file, since the meta data will only get pulled automatically by episode, not by disc. So I would use MakeMKV and then my folder structure would look like the following:
e:\Media\Game_of_Thrones\S01E01.mkv e:\Media\Game_of_Thrones\S01E02.mkv e:\Media\Game_of_Thrones\S01E03.mkv If you go this way, I trash all subtitles in MakeMKV except the english forced subtitles. That way simply turning on subtitles will default to the forced subtitle. |

Thanks! I will check that out
I don't suppose there is a way to see what content/movies were "rejected" by the automatic addition to the Videos Menu? Right now the only way I can think to do this is to print the contents of each one of my like 15 import folders (I have many external hard drives for the 2000+ movies I have in my Videos menu right now) and look to see if each title is in my Videos menu. Ugh... that will take hours I'm guessing. Can anybody think of an easier way? Thanks! |

Yes, again you can do this with BMT. All of your media will show up somewhere in BMT. The best thing that could happen is that your missing media would simply be under the "Missing Metadata" category. If the metadata was matched incorrectly, then it will be more work since it may be categorized incorrectly. Regardless, BMT would make this issue simpler than brute force.
I would wander over to the Batch Metadata Tools subforum and read some of the user guides or watch the youtube videos. |

Excellent! I just need to go into BMT and see what there is to see then before I ask anymore questions Just haven't been at home to check it out so was trying to strategize a game plan. LOL
Thanks again! |

I would also suggest going into the BMT web page and click on Browse and then choose Sage Video Imports by Folder from the column of Views down the left side. Then choose the folder that you want - you will immediately see what wasn't matched as it won't contain fanart. Then click on that file and then Find Metadata and you can fiddle around until you get a good match.

There is something else going on here, however, because sage doesn't 'reject' imports, especially from the default videos menu. It should be finding those video_ts folders, and bringing in each disc as it's own video entry. Now, sage is much happier, as was mentioned, viewing tv shows as tv shows, so you are going to be happier in the end going away from being tied to discs - in fact, I'd recommend heavily installing Gemstone, which, once you break those discs up into individual files for each episode, will navigate through them as tv shows, and not as imported movies/videos.
regarding the file naming - I prefer to name them as follows if possible: <IMPORT_FOLDER>\Game of Thrones\Season 01\Game of Thrones - s01e01 - Winter is Coming.mkv <IMPORT_FOLDER>\Game of Thrones\Season 01\Game of Thrones - s01e02 - The Kingsroad.mkv etc... This way, folder structure isn't not all that important, and if you move files around, you don't end up with files that are just named s01e01.mkv, which can be pretty confusing. Just about any modern media software will fully understand the naming format I just described, no matter what folder the items are in.

Thanks, Fuzzy!
I may have used incorrect terminology. I have my videos sorted by date added with the newest at the top so as soon as I go into my video menu flow that I have setup I see the newest movies I added. By "rejected" I mean that say I add 3 DVD titles, it seems if one has an odd title (like the Game of Thrones example) then I only see 2 of the DVD titles. The one with an odd title (I'm guessing that's the cause) just doesn't show up at all anywhere that I can find. Also, I do have Gemstone installed and love it. I'm using the the different flows available in the videos menu. Thanks for the recommendation on the naming. Right now I just use CloneDVD2 and copy the DVD minus the foreign languages rather than ripping out just the movie to an AVI or whatever. I find I use the trailer previews often to find other movies I might want to get |

Hey Guys!
I've tried using BMT and that doesn't appear to be the problem? If this needs to be moved to a different forum, feel free to move mods because I don't know what the problem is, I'll just keep posting here Here is what I have noticed... it appears (but I'm not 100% sure anymore) that I'm only having issues at the moment with movies that are not recognized. However, I also noticed that I have older stuff that imported a long time ago and it DOES show up in my Videos flow Menus??? There is NO metadata in these either because in some cases I may have like a ripStarTrekS03E01.avi as the file name and it DOES show up? Also, the Game of Thrones example I gave above, when I went into BMT, it did have some fanart associated with it. Then, even when I tried to add more of the metadata using BMT, it still is not showing up in my Videos flow menus? So, I'm kind of at a loss as to what I need to do to get my DVD copys that aren't auto added, added to the Videos flow menus? I'll add, and I'm not sure it matters, the example above with the StarTrek avi is that with all those that showed up, I had them in ONE folder... bunch of avi files in a folder that happen to be in an import directory and they all show up... no metadata or fanart but they do show up in the Videos flow menus. For the ones that I'm having trouble with, they all use the standard DVD folder because I basically just copy the DVD over to the hard drive rather than rip it to a single avi file or something. Thanks! |

If you are not seeing your video show up in sagetv (anywhere), then I'd turn on debug logging in the sage properties, and then re-add the dvds and capture the logging. It's likely that sagetv is encountering some issue during the import. I've had a couple of cases where sagetv has imported a video into my music area (i guess it didn't find a video track, so it imported it as music)

Thanks, stuckless! I will give that a try. Just so I'm clear though... by "re-add" do you mean just re-running a scan of imported media or do you mean deleting "stuff" that was added by SageTV or a SageTV plugin?
That got me thinking a little so I looked to see what, if anything was being added to the DVDs that aren't showing up. SageTV is adding a .properties file for even the ones that don't show up and doing so correctly because, for example, on my Game of Thrones DVD I have it titled as "Game of Thrones S04D01" and in the properties file it is showing both the season and disc correctly which throws out the thought I originally had of them not being recognized. However, I do see in the .properties file that it is has MediaType=TV whereas in a DVD that does show up it has MediaType=Movie. Geesh... that is probably my problem right there. I hadn't really played with Flows much but noticed before that if I said to include TV that it showed everything Sage records so I never messed with it and just left it as Movie. Well, I just went and played around a little... it appears my entire "issue" all along was that I unknowingly just didn't have the flow set correctly. UGH! There is an option to show videos imported by folder, I tried that, and it looks to give me exactly what I want because it only shows my video import folders and not my recordings folders. I did this flow and it now shows my Game of Thrones DVDs. Some just show "Game of Thrones" and some show "Game of Thrones S04D01" for example. Not sure why the difference but I should be able to tweak that in BMT Sorry about the dumb question. I'm sure none of you guys even suggested to make sure I didn't have just "movies" selected because that is so basic you just assumed I would had done that already. DOH! I guess I didn't realize that Sage would "know" what DVDs were originally TV shows and which were movies and filter accordingly. Thanks for the help guys. I accidentally figured out what was going on |

I don't think anyone mentioned it because in your first post, you said you were using the standard 'Videos' screen, which has no concept if 'Movies' or 'TV' - that's something generated from Phoenix, and used by the Gemstone UI.

Hmm... I apologize for that. I honestly don't know where everything in SageTV comes from. I've been using SageTV for a long time but never wrote a plugin or messed with the 'internals' of it and have always been weak on what actually is doing what... like I don't know if it is done by Gemstone, Phoenix, BMT, CMT, the core SageTV, or what? LOL By the Standard Videos menu I was talking about the Videos menu that shows up on the main menu and not something like SageMyMovies. Sorry about that.
