Question plex

Ok, I give up on configuring placeshifter! I get it half-way stable, now, it won't play on any of my computers (connected to the lan!!!). Anyone know if there is an idiots-guide to setting up plex? I'm thinking that is my only hope to access my sage recordings via the intra/internet.

Anyone have any experience that I should try? Or any suggestions?

Thanks!

Joe

If you are on your LAN, it makes far more sense to use SageTVClient. Outside the LAN, Plex should be the best quality option, though I've found Placeshifter to work quite well for casual background viewing while at my desk at work.

Plex is very easy to set up - then adding sage content to it follow the instructions here: https://github.com/ai7/sagetv-for-plexmediacenter

Have you considered a Sling Box? It is a hardware expense but it is also plug-and-play and works very reliably (you'll have it setup, configured, and working in less than ten minutes).

If you use extenders then I highly recommend a Sling Box for watching TV on your phone/tablet/computer.

I have it running with my SageTV recordings. I have a utility copy my recordings with the correct naming convention for Plex, to the directory Plex is looking at called TV. SageTV is pointing to the directory, so the recordings look the same in SageTV too.

Thanks! I have a sling box (M500). To watch a single program, it is great, but the lag between the click of the button and the actual execution of the command is maddening (to me). How are the other sling boxes?

Hey Mike, what metadata do you need to correct on the file so that it is PLEX friendly?

Thanks!

You don't need to change metadata, you just need to rename the file so Plex knows how to look up the data.

for Example:

SageTV records the show and names the file,
d:\tv\IntotheBadlands-SnakeCreepsDown-10211660-0.ts

Plex would be looking for,
d:\tv\Into the Badlands\Season 01\Into the Badlands - s01e05 - Snake Creeps Down.ts
See this for reference (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/art...Based-TV-Shows)

PluckyHD made a very cool command line utility (I have it run it daily) which will do all this work for you. If you PM him, he can probably send you a link to his latest version.

If you use the SageTV for Plex addon, you don't need to rename the files.

True, I ran into issues where it stopped working, so I went the route of finding a way to rename and have the native Plex organization work on it.
