I guess until this is fixed in SageTV it just will never work on ExoPlayer . ... hopefully someone will look into a KODI PVR plugin.
Never is a strong word I spoke to the Exo dev, and he said that they just don't have the people to work on it, and it's not something that comes up very ofter, if at all. I talked with Jeff and PS parsing apparently is not that hard compared to TS parsing, and sagetv has a PS parser, so maybe we can migrate that PS parser to ExoPlayer and submit a patch. And if we get it working and Exo doesn't accept it, then no big deal either, since I'm already doing my own ExoPlayer builds, since, I already needed to add/fix things.

Beta 4

I created a Beta 4 that fixes a few odd issues that I found today while testing.

But the main feature is that ExoPlayer in PUSH mode now fully supports seeking and resuming.

If I try to seek while paused, it jumps to the beginning like before. The video and audio also seem to get badly out of sync after seeking a few times. This is on a Shield playing 720P MPEG2 ts.

Are there any extra libraries needed for ExoPlayer?

IJKPlayer works great on firetv but I have been unable to get any of the versions of ExoPlayer working (tried pull fixed and dynamic). I have also tried min clients from Beta-4 all the way back to when it was first added.

If it is not supported, I am more than happy to keep using IJKPlayer for now.

I don't think that ExoPlayer has any extra libraries. What file types have you tried to play on the FireTV? It just so happens that I have a brand new FireTV hooked up I just haven't gotten around to testing with it yet. I'll see if can play my test media on it later.

I have tried some locally recorded MPEG-PS, mkvs, and avis. In earlier builds they acted like they were playing (the timeline advanced) but the screen remained blank. In the latest builds (beta 3 and 4) I just get an immediate message about "Playback failed"

No rush since IJKPlayer is working but just wanted to mention it in case you started to get a lot farther with ExoPlayer.

Happy to help if you need more info.

Yeah, so for ExoPlayer MPEG-PS and AVI will not work. The MKVs should work, unless there is something odd of the video/audio. Can you grab a mediainfo for the mkv. Just curious what the audio and video streams are.

The problem with IJKPlayer is that you won't get hardware acceleration for mpeg2 video, but I think you get it for h264 video. IJKPlayer also has the added advantage that it will likely play just about anything since it's based on ffmpeg, but, it might not play everything well.

Aha, makes sense.

I will grab the info when I am home tonight as well as try a few more mkv files.

Okay so the good news is I was able to throw a ton of mkv files at it and ExoPlayer is working just fine in multiple modes on the firetv.

Turns out the bad mkv that I tried last night was a mp4 file that has the wrong extension. Get info clearly shows it as a quicktime file.

Can't do anything but open the "TV" menu.

I LOVE this in concept and looks!

That said, i installed it on my GS5 and my Galaxy Tab 4, and I can get it to open the TV menu, listing recordings, watch liver tv etc., but then can't do anything from there, except tap on TV again and make the menu close. No other taps does anything.

Is this me or are there problems that would keep this from working on these?

Are you using gestures? You swipe left and right to go deeper or back in the menus, and up and down swipes also. Then double tap to click on a selection.

I was not! I was just tapping. That got it.

Only thing I still don't see is how to get the navigation tools up, ffw rew pause etc?

BTW, if there's a doc on this feel free to just point me to that.

Thanks for your help!

at any time swipe in from the left edge (ie, left to right swipe that touched the left edge of the screen). This will bring up an on screen navigation, that includes the actions you are looking for. On a TV, you get them using the long press on select.

I think this is covered in the first post, in the discussion thread. (I think)

Stuckless, Just started using your android client and it seems to work really well. Thanks for all your work on it..
You probable already know this but everything works except live tv when selected by itself. If I select a program that is already being recorded it works fine. This is on a Samsung 7" tablet running running android ver 5.1..

Thanks again for your hard work.

Actually, I can't say that I did know this I don't have a livetv source on my dev machine, and I don't use LiveTV (rarely) on my main server.

Is this using ExoPlayer, or IJKPlayer? If it's ExoPlayer, then it's likely that SageTV is sending the video stream as MPEG-PS and that is not supported for ExoPlayer.

Stuckless, I did not have exoplayer selected so I guess I was using ijkplayer.

I changed to exoplayer and tried it but did not get anything when playing a recorded file or live. I was able to play mp4 files with no problem.

I did some more testing with ExoPlayer. It seems that pausing before seeking causes the problems since seeking while playing seems to work fine. I hope it can eventually allow seeking while paused because this is my preferred playback procedure to skip past certain "breaks" . Thanks.

Stuckless, just another thing I wanted to share just in case you didnt know. I use comskip and it seems to work with my recorded shows using IJKplayer. So that is pretty cool.

You should enter an issue on the issue tracker, since I'm likely to forget about this one, since I never seek when paused. Not even sure what it should do, so I'll have to try it on my hd300 and see.
