media server optiions

I currently have a sagetv license & want to be able to serve to 3 house tvs sets. I am currently streaming with roku on tv sets. should i try to find remaining server boxes & licenses or find another setup ? been playing with plex roku app. not ideal situation. would like the benefit of interactive tv guide. not ready to switch to tablo since have heard it is not anywhere near sagetv abilities. what are my options?

Amended; I noticed I can still purchase Hauppauge MediaMVP-HD boxes. Do they work the same as the sage media extenders? Not familiar with either since have only used a single computer setup. It would be nice to create some sort of hybrid with functions of the Sagetv with added media streams of roku boxes.

If you're able to wait a little while, there is active work being done in the open source forum for SageTV 9 which should hopefully make Sage directly usable on many flavors of Android devices if all goes well.

Also, if you're running the open souce(version 9) flavor of Sage, a server license is only needed if you want to use the same EPG servers that the commercial version used. The other license keys are no longer needed.

If I was in your position, I would consider buying HD300s for extenders or wait for an Android client.

Currently, the HD300 is the best extender available. The downside is that it does not have native support for Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. However, if you purchase a Playon TV license then those features can be added through a Sage app. HD300s can be purchased through the information provided here.

The benefit of waiting for an android client is that this will open up a variety of devices for extenders, some at very reasonable prices (FireTV Stick). There is active development which you can follow here, however when this will become available is anyone's guess.
