Audio questions

For several months now I've been unable to change the volume with my hd300 extender while watching TV on HD channels recorded via my HDHR3s. I can control the volume with the extender remote control just fine on the SD channels recorded with my hauppauge 2250s. The only thing I can think of is when I switched from the client back to the extender back in April, perhaps I didn't get something set up. Its a minor annoyance but an annoyance nonetheless. I have to use the TV tuner to control the volume on those local, HD channels. Any thoughts?

The other issue is when using my hd300 I get an ocassional dropped sound. Just enough to not hear a word that said so I have to back up and play it again. Does this mean my HD300 is going bad? Or my HDMI port is going bad. I have the component break out cable around here someplace but haven't seen it in a long time. Thoughts on the audio drops?

TIA

Your HD300's audio setting is set to Bitstream, which outputs the AC3 compressed audio stream directly the the TV, where it is decoded there. This prevents the HD300 from altering the audio (adjusting volume). The SD channels are not AC3 encoded, so the extender CAN adjust them. If you want to control the volume on the HD300, you'll need to set it's audio output to PCM, which will cause it to always decode it and send it to the TV as stereo PCM, with the volume adjusted.

My HD300 has short audio drops as well - no idea why. HD300 is connected via HDMI and audio settings are set to bitstream.

Thx Fuzzy - that change now allows me to control the volume w/ the HD300 remote control.

Any idea why extender is dropping audio?

Are you seeing any video glitches as well?

I get some very infrequent video glitches when watching HD via the HDHR3s but none with the 2250s and SD.

I might be wrong, but audio drops can be discovered only when viewing live TV.
