quick question about archiving recordings

I was wondering if I already converted most of my shows from .mpg to .avi to save space and want to do it some more to an entire series, will sage tv skip converting the .avi files that were already converted of do I need to manually mark each .mpg file since the software may run a conversion job on an already processed show?

In other words I am trying to save space and converting them cuts the size almost in half and frees up more space and have did this with entire show seasons but the seasons were not over when I did it so I need to do it again for the new shows and wanted to know if I can just re-run the process on the entire season and have sage only convert the .mpg files or if it will try doing that to the processed .avi's as well?

Thanks!!!

Not to answer your question at all, but if you use an external program like Handbrake to convert your shows to mp4 they take up about 1/5th to 1/10th the space. SageTV uses a very old version of ffmpeg, I think, while Handbrake and practically every other utility of this type uses the latest.

Yep I know troycheek - I only compressed my recording because I was sick and running out of space so had to make room for new stuff as after I watch stuff I delete it.

I do use handbrake or other stuff for long term storage but that is rare.
