How to Disable Fanart in Simplified Flow?

I'm using the Simplified Flow for my recorded and imported TV shows. I've always had problems with the show banner fanart appearing correctly in that view. Sometimes it does- sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, sometimes the text of the show appears when a show is selected- sometimes it just turns blank.

It's been pretty frustrating. I've tried clearning caches, rebuilding caches, selecting defaults in the fanart manager, etc. Still, I have tons of problems. Based on the other posts here I see I'm not the only one.

At this point, the fanart feature is more of a nuisance. I want to keep using the Simplified Flow, but I want to disable the banner fanart. I tried disabling fanart completely (which I'd rather not do), but it didn't seem to stop it from appearing.

Am I missing something simple here?

I think you can just turn off Banners in the option screen, can't you?

I see an option to turn off season banners, but not the show banners.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

I see a "Show Series Banner" option. I got to this by clicking Options|Customize from the TV Recordings screen.

I can see that option from the TV recordings screen, but not from a Phoenix view that is displayed using the Simplified Flow.

As I said, I'm willing to turn off fanart completely, if that's what it takes (I tried turning it off in gemstone settings to no avail). Although, I really like using BMT to pull down metadata for imported TV/movies. My main reason for moving to Gemstone was to get my TV recordings and imported TV shows to appear on the same screen, and to have imported movies and recorded movies to appear on the same screen. Fanart was always a secondary concern. I don't mind occasional problems, but I really don't like it when the series banner doesn't display and it won't even fall back to text.

Simplified Flow is really designed to use banner fanart so the top level "series" banners cannot be disabled in that flow.

I would suggest you use one of the non-fanart flows such as the "Sage Flow" which mimics the simple sage list on the left. On the right side in the info panel you can also remove any fanart by going into the Options, select Info Options and change the style to "Side Simple". This Flow will then not display any fanart.

Another option is using the "Dual Flow" and change the Info Style to "Top Simple".

I much prefer the Simplified Flow view to the other options. And generally, I like displaying the banners. But it's very frustrating when they don't appear. Sometimes I can play around in the integrated fanart manager (i.e., selecting different default series/season banners), but it doesn't always work.

Would it be an option to always display text with the show name, and simply overlay the banner on top of the text? Then if there's a problem displaying the banner at least you'll still see the name.

That's a fix I made to the basic Malore menus long ago, so it likely would work in Gemstone as well.
