HdHomeRun - No .frq files?

Ever since my cable company changed a bunch of their digital channels I have not been able to get my HDHomeRun Prime to work properly. Today I decided to stop SageTV, delete the .frq and .scn files and start over. When I run the Prime setup no .frq files are being generated. I am pretty sure the HDHR setup process is supposed to create the .frq files which Sage uses to create the .scn files.

Any idea why this might be happening?

It only creates SCN if you are using Clear QAM it will create FRQ if you are using OTA ...it creates neither for Cable Card make sure SAGEDCT is Installed and firewall settings allow full access. Also make sure you downloaded the correct Version of SageDCT 32 bit vs 64 Bit.

right, i was delighted to see recently when I installed my HDHR Prime (cablecard) that no frequency scanning was necessary whatsoever.

Makes like much much easier.

I am tuning clear QAM and there are no .scn files either. Not using SageDCT. Really strange, it tunes everything fine in the Silicondust app but it tunes nothing in Sage. There is a .frq file in the SageTV directory after running a scan in Sage.

I am tuning clear QAM and there is (1) frq file for each tuner. This is for the original HDHR's, so I'm not running the Prime (without cablecard in your scenario I assume.) I'm not sure how I can help more.

If you are using the Prime for Clear QAM don't you have to set it in the HD Homerun software as Digital cable? not cable card. Also make sure the Application says SAgeTV.

I re-read all the install docs and .scn files are no longer created. Sage creates the .frq file when you do the channel scan.

I have it set as Digital Cable and the app as SageTV.

When I get more time I will uninstall all of the HDHR software and start over. Not sure what else to do.

Make sure SageTV firewall access is good also the HDHomerun service.

I'm not doing clear QAM any more, and I never tried it with the Prime, so I may have something wrong here, but here is my understanding:
  • If using the HDHR for OTA (over the air with antenna), it is true that you no longer need to generate the .scn file first - just scan in Sage and it creates the .frq files.
  • If using the HDHR for clear QAM digital cable, you do still need to run the scan in the HDHR software to generate the .scn file. Then Sage can use that to generate its .frq files.

That is correct.

I had problems getting QAM to work on one of the prime's I got on a Woot deal. I don't have a cable card yet so just using QAM. Not sure what I did to get it to work but could have been: I did reboot the PC a couple of times and one of them was a complete power off of the box. I also had older software installed at first when I tried the scan then I installed the CD software. But I think I may have tried that a second time (old then new from CD) again before it generated the .scn files. The reboots could have been between any/all of these software installs.

So long story short I think you can get it to work if you keep trying options. You will stumble on the correct method much as I must have.

I have rebooted several times and have run countless scans using the HDHR setup program. After setting it up 2 years ago it worked fine until my cable company remapped some of the clear QAM channels. When they did that the channels that did not get remapped continued to work but I could never get the remapped channels to work. It's like it won't "forget" the old mappings. I deleted the lineup from Sage and cleared all of the remappings in Sage. I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but I have no clue what.

The firewall settings have not changed as far a I know, but I will double check that to be sure.

Fixed it. I uninstalled the HDHR software, downloaded and installed the latest and now it all works. I am not sure why the "old" software suddenly stopped working but I am not complaining.
