Strange Extender Problem - New Win 7 Install
I have several SageTV servers and HD-200 Extenders, and am still happily running as I have for years. I still run Sage 6.6.2 . It runs fine and I never felt I was missing out on much by not upgrading to v7.
Everything works great, but recently I retired one SageTV server due to old hardware and re-installed on a new PC. The old one was running XP, the new one is Win7 Home Premium (32). I had some challenges with UAC, have set the SageTV exe to be "Run as Administrator", and had to disable Windows firewall temporarily when installing Nielm WebServer 2.2.2 to get it to work properly. Now everything works, except for one vexing issue I can't figure out. If I use an extender in "Folders" mode, I can connect to the new PC over my network and play a given h.264 HD file (recorded with Hauppauge HD-PVR) with no issues. But if I connect to the SageTV server running on the new PC with the extender, and try and play the same file, it loads and plays for about 5-10 seconds, then freezes and the extender powers itself off. I find I have to remove and re-attach power to the extender to get it back to fully operational. I have replicated this scenario with different extenders. Is it possible that this is some kind of license issue? As I mentioned, SageTV on the PC itself works fine. I have also tried re-installing without UAC and Windows firewall and the behaviour continues. Hopeful that the assembled Sage geniuses here can help me with this issue, and thanks in advance.

Is it only one, or a small # of files? I have HDHR Prime recordings that sometimes exhibit this kind of behavior and I have to power off my HD300 in order to play anything at all after a file does this.
In each instance it has always been a bad recording. I suspect it is just something out of sync in the recording because many times it is a recording that records right after another one on the same channel and same tuner, then the next recording immediately following it on the same channel/tuner is fine. I have had it be an HD-PVR recording, but that is much rarer. I have not tried accessing one of those suspect files in Media mode rather than extender mode. I'll have to give that a shot to see if I see the same thing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried other known good files and had the same behaviour.
Still flummoxed by this. I would like to figure it out because I have a number of XP machines that must migrate to Win 7. I hope the answer is not that you can't run SageTV 6.62 on Win 7.

One thing I forgot to mention. Once I get one of these types of files that cause the shutdown I cannot get ANY files to play until I pull the plug for a few secs and reboot the extender. Then known good files will play again until I find another bad file.
It happens rarely and at least so far only on one of my servers. I have kept my old server running with older recording devices even after I have built my new server. So far all the failed recordings are on the new server. I have yet to see one on the old server. I have no idea why it is happening. As I said several of these bad recordings have been on a channel I'm recording a string of back to back shows. One is good, the middle one is bad and the last one is good again with no intervention from me, and no error message from SageTv on some of those bad recordings (some will give a single signal lost message). Again, once I run into one of those bad files no other files will play until I unplug/reboot the extender.

On both of my W7 machine, I created a user account, then run the service using that account. That user has full access to all recording/playback directories. Have you tried that?

Not a Sage issue apparently
I just installed all of the same Sage software onto an identical PC to the one I am having an issue with. Everything works perfectly, so there must be a software or networking issue with my troubled PC.
Thanks everyone
