Unhappy License transferring

For years I have been running two WHSv.1 servers - one as a Sage server, and one as my media storage. I use PC clients exclusively. Well, my Media Storage server finally bit the dust, and I am currently trying 2012 r2 Essentials to fill the role. It appears to be the way I want to go on this machine.

The issue I am running into is that I cannot make WHS and Server communicate in any way with each other. I know WHS is really a domain-free network, and of course 2012 uses AD. I can't see or RDP to the WHS from Server 2012, or vice-versa, and Sage on the WHS will not let me point to any of the Server media directories, either interactively or by simply creating UNC paths and restarting it.

I must be the only person in the world wanting the two running on the same network as I haven't been able to find any help on this one.

My question is, if I move my Sage server to a Win7Pro64 box, will my WHS license work on this box?

Thanks in advance for any help/responses.

Grant

You can use your current SageTV WHS license to register SageTV on any other version of Windows. Obviously, you will have to install SageTV using the regular Windows version of the SageTV installer instead of the WHS version. The WHS version was made to run on a headless WHS machine, so the WHS version of the SageTV installer included one free extender/placeshifter license built-in. If you install on a different version of Windows with the regular Windows version of the SageTV installer, then you will lose that one free extender/placeshifter license.

Interesting. Does it work the other way around too, in other words can I use a Windows license key on an installed WHS version of SageTV? Just curious...

Sure, the SageTV Windows licenses are interchangeable between WHS and non-WHS SageTV versions. The only main difference between the WHS and non-WHS SageTV versions is the WHS version comes with one free built-in extender/placeshifter license.

Thanks for clearing that up Robogeek. I figured it would work, but with Sage being such a necessity around our place, its important I have all my questions answered before I screw myself up... again hehe.
