Issue with DTS-MA Bluray playback
So I have been trying without luck to be able to playback my bluray rips with DTS-MA tracks passed to my receiver on the HD300.
Basically any bluray rip (note just ripping the entire disc using dvdfab copy) stutters randomly (ie I can rewind and it will play the section fine) and drops out when played back on the HD300 regardless of the audio track I choose. Note the same rip plays fine on an XBMC box. Others here seem to not have any issue with this playback? Even if I make an mkv of the rip and passthrough the DTS-MA track is stutters randomly throughout playback. |

In my experience, only the last non-beta firmware will play all HD audio formats without issues. If you are sure you are using the latest non-beta firmware, maybe it's something that DVDFab is doing. I have been using AnyDVD for years without issue. However, audio problems typically resulted in the audio simply dropping out, not stuttering. Stuttering might suggest a network issue or something else. Powercycle the HD300 and any networking equipment you might have, then give your Sage server a reboot, for good measure.

Well I gave up on getting HD300 to playback bluray and picked up an Intel NUC to use as a client. In the process of swapping the NUC in place of the HD300 I had noticed that my HD300 had starting having issues getting an IP. In that it would take several reboots to get one. Then after one swap it never would get one. I then remember because my main TV area has a large number of devices that needs ethernet I put a 5 port switch in the cabinet. Well that switch had died.
I wonder if it was slowly dieing and causing my dropouts, I kinda of doubt that is the case since everything else playback fine on the HD300 as long as the rip did not include HD audio. Anyhow the NUC played back my rips perfectly, course that test was on a new switch. I will go back and test the HD300 on the new switch as well. |

I bet it was the switch or maybe even then ethernet of the HD300. People have also had trouble with the HD300 and gigabit networks. Something about the flow control that can choke the HD300. The solution is typically to enable or disable it on the Sage server.
In any event, I also have the i5 NUC which I used with XBMC for all my movies. The HD300 has a problem with providing accurately timed framerates when playing back at native resolution (some firmware versions are worse than others). With the higher motion 120hz "smoothing" on my TV, this resulted in random jutter every so often. The NUC does an amazing job of maintaining a very accurate frame rate, especially with the XBMC native resolution feature turn on. |
