Colossus + HDMI = low volume recordings?

So I moved one of my Colossus cards from component + RCA to HDMI using one of the often mentioned 1x2 HDMI splitters throughout the forums here. So far so good. Going to give it a week or two and assuming no issues, I'll order a second splitter for the other card.

The only issue I'm having is that the recordings from the HDMI source have an extremely low volume. I have to turn the volume up on my tv almost to 100 just to be able to hear. The recordings (from the same card) using component + RCA need only have my tv volume set to around 30 to hear. So is there a setting somewhere to adjust the volume on the HDMI input? The real issue is that I still have a lot of recordings using RCA sound and if I don't remember to crank the volume back down on the tv before playing one of those recordings, well, I'm going to blow the speakers (and/or my eardrum) sooner or later.

Besides the easy DD5.1 sound on my recordings now over HDMI, the main reason I'm doing this conversion is to remove the bulky/heavy component cables used to connect the STB to the Colossus cards. Being able to remove those cables from the back of my setup will be soooooo nice! But I really do need a fix for the volume.

Dumb question but did you turn up the volume on the STBs? I didn't think it should make a difference but it does for my setup using the original HD-PVR with optical s/pdif audio.

Sounds like your recordings are actually getting 5.1 sound. So lower volume is normal. Find a stereo program and the volume should go back up a bit. But you might find that all your new recordings are somewhat lower than your older recordings. I've gotten into the habit of setting my receiver really low and then adjusting it up after the recording starts. I need to look into ffdshow's ability to equalize the volume because I get this when one of my local channels goes to commercial. They were suppose to equalize the volumes here in US but all the local channel did was reduce the volume of the WHOLE program so I have to adjust it abnormally loud to hear the program and skip the commercials when my ears start bleeding.
