Colossus HDMI and spdif

I wander if it would be possible for Sagetv to configure HDMI/Spdif in, sort of like component/spdif? I realize hauppauge is releasing a driver to capture AC-3, but who knows how well that will work with various boxes?

I like your idea. I'm stuck with component+SPDIF to get 5.1 until Hauppauge's driver comes out. Would like to switch to HDMI since I've already tried it out and it works in PCM recording stereo. But I want my 5.1! Hope Hauppauge gets their driver out soon if Sage can't implement this in the next beta.

Im capturing 5.1 through the HDMI off my Directv boxes into the Colossus. Atleast the file properties are showing it as 5.1.

I just finally set mine up last night, and thought I would try HDMI (I also have DirecTV H23). I didn't realize that it isn't 5.1. My main viewing area is still in construction right now, so we're just using the TV in the bedroom, which just has stereo. If that really is the case, then I will probably be switching back to component + spdif (like I used for my original HD-PVR).

As a side note/question: Wakecrash, are you able to record all channels from the H23 over HDMI? All of the ones that I have tried so far are working. Is it a case where, if one works, they will all work?

Well, after the new Colossus driver and installing a second Colossus, I did get 5.1 over HDMI, however I end up getting a black screen unless I unplug and replug the hdmi cable. I have moved back to component/spdif unfortunately.

It was working for all channels, I read from others that HDMI is working.

I also have 2 Colossus and have been experiencing lockups and jerky video so perhaps you may have better luck.

If you have any movie channels I would recommend checking those to make sure they work.

I have showtime and starz, Hdmi seems to play fine for even those channels. My boxes are H23's. I to went back to Compenent though. The only issue with HDMI I had was every 5 hours or so my server Blue screened. Hasn't happened since I went back to component.

Is there a trick for HDMI?

I have 4 Colossus cards and I can only get video from Component. If I try to use HDMI the video is just black. The cable boxes are set to output 1080i. I am running XP SP3. Do you need Win7 to get HDMI capture to work?

Doubt you problem is XP related. The cable boxes are probably just fully HDCP compliant meaning the signal is scrambled. The Colossus probably won't support HDMI on most Cable\Sat boxes just the lucky few. Older boxes are probably better.
