MP3 playback, no sound until FF

I am having a nasty issue with MP3 playback. When a song starts it has no sound. A quick FF then REW gets the sound to start.

I have tried several different audio decoders and audio renderer's. This happens on all three of my PC's. Anyone else seen this or know a workaround? The only common thing between these PC's would be the MP3 itself.

Re: MP3 playback, no sound until FF

I'm having a similar issue (only installed Sage 3 days ago). I'd say about 50% of the time a song will start with no sound, but as you said FF/REW will get it going. Did you ever resolve the issue?

My MP3s are encoded at 256kbps, and are being output via SPDIF off my Asus mainboard. Also tried various decoders.

No resolution. Have started to use Meedio for MP3 playback. I probably should submit a technical support request though.

Does anyone else know anything about this? I can't imagine that there are only two of us with the problem. I otherwise like Sage, and would buy it if I could get this resolved. At this point, it looks like a bug in the software, since the MP3s play fine in any other player.

Same problem here. Only seems to happen on certain mp3's I have downloaded. It may depend on the encoder used. If I reencode the mp3 using sound forge it plays fine. I too would like to see some major improvements in the mp3 player used with sage as this and cd playback are the main issues missing to make sage a complete media center.

I also noticed that it always happens on the same MP3s (about half of the ones in my collection). However, I ripped them all myself from the original CDs, using the same encoder at the exact same settings (WinLame - 256 kbps/stereo). I can't think of any common denominator between the ones that won't play, and have way too many to try re-encoding them all (they all play fine in any other player).

Just wanted to post that over the weekend, I did try ripping some CDs at slightly different settings to see if that would make a difference, and it did.

The original MP3s were ripped with WinLame at constant 256kbps in stereo mode. About 75% of these fail to play in Sage, until I hit FF. The other 25% play correctly from the start. Every other media player (WinAmp, WMP, etc) I've tried correctly plays these with no problems.

The MP3s I ripped this weekend were also done with WinLame, but I used a variable bitrate (192-320kbps), and joint stereo mode. These always start on the first try in Sage.

All of the MP3s were ripped directly from the original source CDs as .wav files with Nero.

At the very least, Sage has a problem with MP3s that are encoded at 256kbps/stereo in WinLame. Anyone else having this problem care to share what encoder/settings they used? Hopefully we can find the common denominator so that Frey can fix the issue.

Thumbs down Same problem here

Has anyone fixed this yet? I'm running Sage 2.2.8 with Cayars 17 (need to update my sig). If I reload the media player (detailed setup, video settings) while its playing back an audio track it starts to play. But as soon as the next song in the playlist starts it stops playing back again.

I ripped all the tracks from my cds with RealPlayer (10?) using 256bit encoding. Whats up with this broken mp3 player?

I'm now having this same issue in v6. Everything was working perfectly fine, no when I try to start songs I have to FF to get them to play. Even if I play an entire album I have to hit FF at the beginning of each song for the audio to play at all. Totally weird, especially since the SAME songs were working fine yesterday...

Any ideas?

Gave the latest version of Sage a try to see if this has been corrected (almost 4 years later) - and it hasn't.

Has anyone that has experienced this found a fix for it?
