For devs who use Google Code...

As you may or may not be aware, Google Code is disabling project downloads in January. Existing files will remain available for "some time", but you will not be able to create new downloads.

I've chosen to migrate back to SourceForge, which does continue to offer file hosting -- and they've made a lot of improvements since I last used them. If you decide to go that direction, they've just released a Google Code project importer that seems to work quite nicely (I've used it on one project so far). Definitely gets everything over to a new SF project with little effort. Run the importer from here:

http://sourceforge.net/p/forge/docum...de%20Importer/

Thanks... I'll check it out as well... I was considering moving to GitHub... but I have accounts at both, so, maybe SF is the way to go

Github doesn't support file downloads anymore either (they removed the feature some time ago).

Yeah, I realize that as well... When i planning on going GitHub, I was thinking that I could get a dropbox accout for my sagetv plugins, and then just use good oldfashion "file management" tools to manage the downloads.

They sure made it simple....I converted all of mine in a few minutes...walked away and it emailed when done.

A little testing yet but am impressed with their import tool...the Wiki conversion is pretty good too.

I am going to give this a whirl as well. Several of my plugins need updating, might as well start fresh

Well, they made it so rediculously easy to migrate that even a dummy like me could do it

For those migrating, is there any advantage to using their source code control system other than having the download files and the source in the same place? Is Google going to discontinue their source code control system?

I think it's safe to assume that google will eventually kill off google code for source control. I've already moved to github for my projects.

How to I get NetBeans to start using the new code repository? Do I need to "relocate" the project? I am afraid to start pressing buttons and messing up something that can't be fixed!

I haven't used netbeans in a while, but, I've you've already checked in all the code into SF... then I'd just blow away whatever local projects that you have (and back them up), and then check out a new project from SF, configure it, etc, and it'll be ready to publish back to SF.

Thanks stuckless, I will give that a try.

I've added a new file to Sourceforge but the status says "pending" and the download URL says "This file will be ready for download shortly" for 45 minutes. Is this normal? I did some googling and people complained of this 3 years ago but nothing recently.

I had the same issue last night. There's something wrong with the file release system at SF right now. Open a support ticket at SF.

They might be a little overwhelmed with the high demand since the google code exodus

Could be I took Slugger's advice and 2 hours after opening the ticket the problem is fixed. Will try to do some more testing tonight.

One last SNAFU. Everything is working fine in my test setup and the dev manifest works fine but when I try to submit the plugin it fails verification saying the zip file could not be downloaded from SF.

Ideas?

Double check the url for the file (copy/paste it into a browser). If it works there then might be a Sage issue. Could also be intermittent with the SF file release system problems they've been having so just try to submit it again.

Resubmitted the exact same manifest an hour later and it worked. SF is flaky

This is interesting... because I got the exact same issues when I used github hosting... it worked "sometimes". But other times, sagetv would report that the file md5sums didn't match.

I tried using dropbox, but there is an error in DropBox downloads in how they handle the http range header that sagetv passes... It's unlikely that they will fix it... So DropBox is out...

I eventually created a BinTray account, and I host some of my stuff there.
