SageTV memory on Win2012 : 64-bit OS

Built new Win2012 server and reinstalled SageTV server.

I configured SageTV to use 1GB (0x400) of memory for java.
I know that is the upper limitation for a 32-bit platform.

However, Win2012 is 64-bit and the corresponding Java install is also 64-bit.

Does anyone know if I can now get SageTV to use more than 1GB for the JVM?

SageTV is a 32 bit application and will not use more than 1GB (0x400)

I thought the maximum memory a 32bit application could address is 2 gb? Where is this 1 gb limit coming from?

It is what it is that is all you can allocate for SageTV ... and it is my believe this will never change... unless they re-release SageTV.

I believe it really has to do with the JVM and how much memory it can access. SageTV is written in Java so JVM limitations apply.

That is a Windows limitation. Technically a 32bit application can utilize up to 4GB of memory. But in 32bit Windows 2GB is all you get (by default, you can tweak it to 3GB but that is really it). Since 32bit pointers will not allow you to address anything beyond 4GB this leaves room for expansion cards (BIOS, graphics memory, ...) which get mapped into memory space.

The Java JVM also has to fit in that 2GB space, and that is a LOT of overhead to deal with.

Also, unless you have a program that can use the 64-bit java, it will serve you no purpose. You cannot run 32-bit java apps using the 64-bit java install. You still need the 32-bit java installed on your 64-bit OS (and most people have no reason to install the 64-bit version).
