Question Will SageTV Client work like my Replaytv's ?

Hi there.

I have two 5040 RPTV's one in living room the other in my Bedroom. With them I can record or watch what I have recored on either one of them. My question is, If I place SageTV Client on my soon to be 2nd htpc. SageTV 2.0 is already on htpc #1. Would it operate the same as my networks ReplayTV ?

ie: Will I be able to set a recording For htpc #1 from htpc #2.........or do the reverse ?

thanks

It would let you control everything on the SageTV server as if you were sitting in front of it.

Not sure what you mean about the "reverse" though. Only SageTV can do the actual recording. If you want to put a tuner in that client PC you need to get SageRecorder and network it to SageTV.

I'm not explaining myself well.
By reverse I mean, can I set a recording and or watch a recording on htpc#1 from hptc #2 and or do the same from htpc #2 set a record or watch something on htpc #1. Like you can with networks 5040 replaytv's ?

What you saying I would be better off with SageRecorder then I would with SageTV Client one htpc #2 ?

I better do more reading I guess

SageClient can only control SageTV. It can not control tuner cards.

SageRecorder can control tuner cards and network them INTO SageTV for one central recording server.

SageRecorder has no UI for SageTV and can't control SageTV. It is more that SageTV can control SageRecorder and use it as a slave recording engine.

So you need both to do what you want. Unless you don't put any tuner cards in the client HPTC then you don't need SageRecorder.

Tuner cards will be in both HTPC's.

Thanks for giving me an idea of what I need.

Yes, you can set a recording from either, but the difference is in where the shows are actually recorded. You can schedule a recording from a Sage client, but it actually gets recorded on the server. Whereas with the ReplayTVs, you have either of the boxes capable of doing recording.

I prefer the Sage method for several reasons. (Only having to have one box with tuners in it, only have to have ethernet for the clients, etc.)

I like SageRecorder because it lets me separate the cable boxes throughout the house to save on clutter. Plus you can run out of PCI slots real fast in the server.
