Please help me debug DVDplayback stuttering
My Sagetv server/client box recently started having a stutter problem for ripped DVDs. It plays other format fine, Plays recorded TV fine, but for DVD folders on my HDD it has a periodic stutter every 20 seconds. The video just freezes for a couple of frames and then continues. Happens for all DVD folders even movies that I watched stutter free two weeks ago.
VLC plays everything just fine. CPU usage never goes above 5% when playing a DVD. I haven't made any changes to my hardware or software recently. My system specs: AMD A8-5600 4GB RAM Windows 7 64bit No graphics card other than the graphics built in to the AMD processor. Tuner: HDHR I do not have any CODECS installed other than what comes with Windows 7. I have tried every combination of MPEG2 decoder and Video Rendering in SageTV and all combinations have the same problem. How can I debug this issue? Any tips? What should I try next? I am a long time SageTV user, but I am clueless when it comes to debugging playback issues as it usually just works. |

I just installed the latest APU graphics drivers from AMD. The new driver did not help with the DVD playback problems.

Just installed ffdshow and I get the same DVD playback problem with ffdshow that I get with the SageTV and the Microsoft decoder.
This makes me think that it can't be a codec problem. |

Does this problem happen when playing DVD discs and/or playing DVD folders from a different hard drive?
Have you tried a different DVD audio decoder?

I just copied a couple of DVD folders to another drive and I get the same playback problem on that drive.
I also tried playing a DVD disc in the DVD drive, and the video has the same stutter. |

So it doesn't look like a problem with your hard drive.
Don't overlook the audio decoder. It can cause issues like this too.
