Any otehr extenders?
Are there any other extenders that will work with Sage TV? Something like, the CETON echo? I have three of the HD Theaters, and they still work, but am getting more worried each day about when they will fail!
Anything that will work out of the box? Anything that can be hacked? Anybody reverse engineered the HD Theater?!?!? |

No, just the ones Sage sold. Next best option is to go with a small computer (maybe and Intel NUC for example) and run SageClient on it.

No, there is nothing else. The closest you will get would to use Plex and a Roku box. I have not tried it but they have a good support thread and the people using it seem to like it.

A Boxee Sage app was developed a while ago to use Boxee as an extender. I don't think it is being further developed but I believe it had most functionality of the Sage extenders. See this thread for more info.
I think another possibility is to use a Plex extender and the Sage Plex scanner. See here for more information. |

If you don't mind spending more, a Mac Mini can make a really great extender. You would have to run Windows on the device but it is compact, sleek looking, and has an IR port built in.

So basically the whole reason for Google buying SageTV was to kill it?
What a shame. I never thought it would happen and was always looking forward to the next release of the hardware.

They didn't kill it. You just have to live in Austin, Kansas City, or Provo to access it.

Question, if you go the route of small computer with SageClient, where do you get the SageClient license?
I am starting to consider this route because the HD300 has a horrible time with Bluray rips with DTS-HD Master passthru |

Which firmware are you running? My HD300 doesn't have any trouble with DTS-HD MA passthrough. Though I have found that you have to make sure to stop playback before you start something else (though that could be due to me having native output enabled).

Using the latest beta firmware. Trying to playback bluray rips from dvdfab. During playback of movies with dts-hd ma the audio will drop out every so often.

I'm pretty sure I'm running something older than that, might actually be the last official firmware, but here's a thread about HD300 firmware and bitsreaming:

You need to run beta firmware 20110124-2. DTS-MA is broken in the latest beta firmware. FLAC playback is broken in the latest official firmware. Beta firmware 20110124-2 fixes both these issues and includes support for HD menus.
Here is a link to a thread on this exact issue: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57929 |

What is "HD Menus"? Will the text look sharper? I run 20110124-2 and I don't recall noticing a difference with menus.

Yes, if running HD resolutions. I believe the menu is rendered at 720 vs 480 of older firmware revisions. The text does indeed look sharper. I happened to buy another HD300 when they sold off the remaining inventory, and it was quite a noticeable difference until I upgraded the firmware.
