JAVA Missing. Could not create JVM.

Often when I start Sage TV I will get an error message saying that it

"can not create JVM, Please reinstall java runtime 1.4"

Usually I can close firefox and open sage and it works, some times I have to close firefox and outlook and that will fix it, but I'm wondering if all this means anything to the sage guru's out there? Again, it's not always, and it's easy to work around, but if there's a fix, I might as well employ it!

Thanks for any input!

Mick

sounds like you are low on memory.... How much memory is installed and how much is your Sage JavaHeap size.

Look in System Information in SageTV it should list the memory used and available and will have three values listed. Post those values.

Thanks again for your help:

Used: 199MB
Total: 269MB
Max: 1038MB

And I just had the problem starting up, had to close Firefox and reopen. I hasn't visited any java pages, which was my original thought (I have a java app that opens each time I open Firefox and thought that might conflict, but hadn't viewed that yet.)

It certainly shouldn't be a Java heap issue you have plenty based on your figures. I was expecting something like 299/389/389 not 199/269/1038. What version of Java are you on? If it is V7 then you will need the microsoft runtimes for Visual C++ to work properly with SageTV see sticky here.

I was getting that same error on one of my clients off and on for about the last year but lately much more frequently. I reinstalled JAVA, made the heap size bigger but I (occasionally) still got the error.

It was then that I remembered years ago that I set SageClient to run in XP compatibility mode (to fix an old update problem). I turned off compatibility mode and haven't had that problem since.

Still getting it too. Specifically when I get this in almost all occasions I close outlook and it then works OK. Other occasions I have to close Firefox as well and then it will work. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear it.
