why?

its meant to me a standalone DVR without outputs or processing for outputing video. keeps cost down and allows the user to select the clients they want to use to consume the content... just like HDHR...

Because a solution cannot address the needs of 100% of the marketplace does not mean its not a great solution. There are millions of people who live near towers or with cable, so at least they have an option.

but having digital outputs on the box doesn't address your concern either, so my original comment stands... it doesn't have output on it because its not meant to. its meant to be a standalone DVR that the individual can choose how to consume the content.

Not once did i suggest it was the solution for everyone. wow Sheesh! have a rough thanksgiving?

I am also NOT a "city folk" and simply have a DIY antenna in my attic. I am about 65 miles from the city and have no issues at all with signal. this easily replaced my HDHR3s consuming OTA with Sage.

I have read and re-read this comment and Im not really sure where you were coming from, why you appear to be angry about it, and how "No" relates to my statement at all, but whatever.

If anyone cares, I put up pictures of how I tweaked JRMC Theater View here on Google Plus. Honestly I didn't put much time into this, i'm sure it could be nicer, but I'm still in the "learn about this". I'm fascinated that there are at least 2 other Sage'rs who still use SageTV as the back-end but 99.99% of all interaction is via JRMC. (They use the SageTV mobile web interface to schedule new shows).

I think using a JRMC/SageTV hybrid has the major constraint of not being able to watch something until its done, so that would be fatal for watching sports, live election results, news. I believe a 3rd Sage'r flipped 100% over to JRMC after a short hybrid stint for that purpose.

Thank you for posting the SimpleTV videos. It does look like an interesting option for OTA. My biggest reservation would be that other than occasional Ipad viewing, we mainly need a good interface/STB to connect with 3-4 TV's. Any idea if the Android app is similar to what was shown for Ios? While we have a roku, I don't think the rest of the house would want to use it for for everyday "watching tv" and would need something else to serve as a source for the SimpleTv feed to a regular TV. Do you know if there are any plans to develop a Samsung app for simpleTV which has a more normal EPG display? I like the concept, although I would need to see more options for outputting display which can function with a remote with a more normal DVR experience for end user.

Today woot.com has the simple.tv version 1 and a lifetime premier subscription for 89.99!

Dual tuner comes out 12/12 and lifetime premier subscription can transfer to new device without issue. The lifetime premier service alone is 149.99

There are ios iPhone apps in the works for release with version 2.0. As well as android. Chromecast coming with version 2.0 and airplay already works great. The twitter feed and webpage / forums are a great source...

I'll take a video of the updated features this far and post it for you.

Thanks again for the videos, looks promising. Chromecast support could be interesting. Other than Roku, will any of the devices supported have an EPG which can be navigated with a remote and not a mouse, or I guess what I'm saying is I and probably many people need the "10-foot user interface"

Not sure of anything specifically other than and android app which would presumably run on any GTV (via google play store) or android stb with play access. I read there are thoughts of a samsung native app, but with samsung buying boxee.tv a while back, i wouldn't hold my breath on that. the new software version supports DLNA, so tech. any device would work, and is suppose to have access to the EPG, but who knows how pretty itll be. The version 2.0 also has a new API layer which allows you to build apps to talk directly to the Simple.tv DVR (epg, recordings, shceduling, etc.)

I haven't see ANY of this at this point, just heard through various channels that it is all in the works.

I'm a little confused. What does JRMC do that XBMC doesn't? It looks like it just plays back media at $50/license. XBMC is simply fantastic at those features (DVR aside), so I don't see the benefit.

That's pretty nice for what it does. It puts all of the "free" channels in a nice little package, unlike most of whats out there. I wish I could benifit from this.

Until something better comes along for "premium" type channels I'll be sticking with 7MC for now. It's been serving me well since Sage.

It is also a desktop app with very good tagging and organization features for all media types.

There's also a DVR, but I'll be sticking with SageTV, it plays well.

I don't know XBMC at all, I looked at JRMC since I already owned a license. It has both a command line interface plus an API so I can build a full featured CQC driver, no idea if XBMC has that.

Here's what I put up in a thread on their forums this morning about what it would take for me to decommission HDx00's and Roku3:

Quote:
Already exceeds current state
Single Video Source for both ripped DVD, TV, local discs, & streaming
Much more visually pleasing interface. (not that important to wife sadly)
Much simpler GUI as IVB deleted many menu items, or re-arranged others.
Wondering if there's anything else. Wondering if the PQ is better via MC RO on the 106" 1080p projector/screen than HD200/roku, haven't done a comparison yet though.

Must Have to Achieve Parity
change hulu submenu to have queue as first menu item
change hulu submenu to delete unneeded views
Organize HuluPlus Queue tv shows into series instead of one long list
Rich CQC driver for MC. (This ones on me, I need to write a CQC driver for MC REST. Which isn't simple.)

Must have to provide incremental value (aka a reason to switch)
universal search across local library, streaming (huluplus, netflix, amazon instant video is ideal)
Voice Control via my/kids Android devices. (doable today, I just need to stitch together Autovoice->Tasker->CQC->MC. I don't think iOS has an AutoVoice app though, so wife is SOL)

Tough to live without but possible
show & play amazon owned movies
In TheaterView, mark a show as watched
In TheaterView, mark a show as unwatched

Incremental Value, but I realize its unlikely in the next 6-12 months as some require both jRiver & external to do stuff
show & play google play movies (I don't think Google allows this)
Display CQC/HomeAutomation information within it in textual format (CQC has a rich API, or I can have CQC create a text file with status every 60 seconds. I need a way to display in TheaterView, ??Allow MCWS??)
Create some mechanism in TheaterView for me to control CQC. (could be via hitting a CQC web server URL, CQC will take over)
Display CQC/HomeAutomation information within it in graphical format (distant future - CQC currently cannot provide this)

Thats all I can think of (for now), i'll keep this post updated with accomplishments or other things I thought of in any of those categories.

No love on that list. Hence It is with utmost sadness that I think that JRMC is NOT a viable replacement for the roku & Sagetv. The streaming setup is primitive, which leaves only the TV front end. I already have extenders plus 3 client licenses with crappy streaming GUIs, so no need. Still looking for a way to unify the streaming and local GUIs, nothing exists, so I'll wait 6-12 months and look around again. Sigh.
