Well, I turned off Cool and Quiet this weekend. I'll try hooking my Colossus back up when I have time, and I'm not recording. Will let everyone know the results.

For Intel. I have i7 3770S on Intel DH77EB. Do I need to change the bios settings for this or can I just change Windows 7 power settings?
Currently I have "High Performance" power plan with advanced settings set as follows: Minimum Processor State: 100%, System cooling policy: active, Maximum Processor State: 100% for Processor Power Management. For PCI Express I have Link State Power Management: off. Essentially all the power saving features of Windows 7 turned off except the System Cooling Policy which I thought would actually run the fans full speed all the time. Hard drives always spinning. Display always on. No screen saver. I still get bad recordings off HDMI - AAC recordings, no sound at all, slide shows but good sound and finally some good recordings with dolby digital 5.1 sound with good picture. All on the same PREMIUM channel. Not I get this on the NON-premium channels as well. Usually if I record the same show 2-4 times on the same channel I will get at least ONE good recording - if it is repeated that many times. DirectTV HR21 straight to Colossus via HDMI. Driver 1.8.31093.0. So unless I need to turn it off in the bios having 100% on CPU did NOTHING for me. Last edited by BobPhoenix; 06-10-2013 at 04:50 PM. |

I not one 100% sure but the power management thing doesn't over ride processor speed stepping.
You may need also try to disabling C1E support and any Turbo Boost |

I have the speed stepping essentially disabled in Windows power advanced settings since I have it set to always run 100% but I will disable it in bios as well also Turbo Boost - and see what I get.

Edit. As of 7:00pm 06/12/2013 I have service set to NOT restart and the parameters above disabled. No "Advanced Turbo" available may have disappeared when I disabled TurboBoost. Also no "Enhanced Halt State (C1E)" maybe it disappeared with another option don't know. Last edited by BobPhoenix; 06-13-2013 at 09:30 AM. Reason: updated status |

Yes there in Bios
It may depend on weather not or your CPU & Motherboard support Speed Over Boost know as Turbo Boost which I think only on AM3+, FM1, FM2 motherboard you know like reg AMD A10-5800K with GA-F2A85X-D3H I has speed stepping clock of 1800 to say 3800 but it can Turbo Boost up 4200. Well here it is two days with all parameters I could find in bios that SHS mentioned (see edit on prior post) and I have my first unwatchable recording. Says AAC audio in Sage but will not playback can advance with ffw but it doesn't do that automatically so naturally no sound either. Just deleted recording. So not working for me. I am willing to conceded that it might be my STB (DirectTV HR21) rather than Colossus card. May try swapping with H23 and try again once I get a HDCP stripper so that I can record HDMI from it like I can directly with the HR21. I say that because even with reboot I get about the same number of bad recordings as I do without reboots with the 1.8.31093.0 drivers.

I am home now from my vacation but had a blackout here so the computer did not reboot itself because power button have to be pressed to turn it on after an blackout. I probably going to have to invested in one of those short term battery back up power supply.
However last record show before the blackout is smooth and good quality so it makes it about 8 days of no problem since the changes in the bios. I believe that changes in the bios really did fix this colossus problem I was having in the past year since I purchased it but I cannot confirm it as of yet and would like to give it at least a month of testing before I can say confirmed. Result are very positive for me. Bill

Bill you set the bios power management to return the power on after an AC power loss use lee there off by default.
Look for in Bios for AC Back or AC Back Function Always Off: The system stays off upon the return of the AC power. (Default) Always On: The system is turned on upon the return of the AC power. or Soft-Off: The system stays off upon the return of the AC power. (Default ) Full-On: The system is turned on upon the return of the AC power. Change it to Always On or Full-On. There used a third option if your bios has it which most AMD do have. Memory The system returns to its last known awake state upon the return of the AC power.
