How can I create chapter markers on imported MKV files?

So, I have these LOTR EE videos. I have ripped them to MKV files using Handbrake, and dumped them into a Sagetv directory. They now show up under Videos==>Titles. What I was wondering is, is there a way to create chapter markers, or timed markers? I had thought about creating a .edl file with a marker every 180 seconds (every 3 minutes), but apparently I'm not doing it correctly because I don't get any commercial markers for the movies.

I was wondering if anyone else had done this, and if so, how did you solve the problem?

Thanks,

Mark

Long ago i had made a program that would extract the chapter marks from a .mkv file and write an .edl for it. I seem to remember it working just fine for me back then. Perhaps your .edl file isn't named properly, or not really the right format. See here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43567

remembering back, I seem to remember that to get imported, the commercial break has to be at least a second long. So obviously, you can't run auto-skip with this method.

I think you can make them during the Handbrake run, not sure how to add them after. Maybe VideoRedo?
