Oh yeah?!? FINALLY!!! After almost a year it is COMPLETE! I'm still running everything in my sig, but I have finally discovered the root cause of the lockups/having to reboot once or twice a week. For me it all had to do with my HDPVR overheating...

I had read that it has issues with the power supply so I emailed Hauppauge and they sent me another and it would work about as good as the origingal. I also thought it might have to do with my usb modem (so I can get caller ID info)

Then I came across several threads about it not really being a power supply issue, but a heat issue. So I purchased this 80mm fan from new egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835119129 it came with a little pig tail that made it easy to solder. (There is already a place on the circuit board for a 5v fan that comes on when it's recording. I have no idea why Hauppauge didn't put their own fan in.)

I used my Dremel to cut a nice little circle on the top. I also had to move the LEDs to the corners and cut some of the clear plastic that they go into to fit the fan. I used hot glue instead of screws to hold everything together.

Instead of cutting vent holes in the bottom or sides, I elected to only screw in the feet a couple of turns. That way, when the unit is sitting flat the gap between the top part and the bottom is about 1/8 of an inch all the way around which I think is plenty of room for the hot air to escape.

It's been running several weeks without so much as a hiccup. Again, about a couple times a week (sometimes a couple times a day) I would get the error that the the "tuner stopped working blah blah the drivers aren't installed blah blah" Now it's been up for several weeks non stop. Also the extenders and everything else seem to be "snappier" The wife acceptance factor is back and I finally have a solid system (like I did before Charter switched to all digital)

HDPVR not recording...

HDPVR recording with the fan spinning and the LEDs moved to the corners

Thanks again, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it only took me a year to get mine working perfectly!

Time for my yearly update! This Christmas I finally got an HDTV... I know, I know, it took me way too long. But, WOW, HDMI is the best invention EVER!

Everything looks better and my machine is still chugging along. That is, until Super Bowl Sunday a couple months ago...

I've had hard drives fail before, but I've always been able to retrieve the data off. This time, my SageTV server had a catastrophic HD failure and I never backed anything up... (except the fresh install of windows and all the drivers/updates)

So I went back and followed this post and after several hours had it up and running again. Then I backed it up with Clonezilla!

I actually think it is running even better? Everything is about 95% perfect. Every few weeks or so, something will crash or the HDPVR will act up (even though I added that cooling fan), but a simple restart always seems to fix it. Before the fan the HDPVR would crash every few days...

Thanks for everybody's continued support on these forums. It still would be nice for a new, improved, and updated version...

Ricky

You may want to poke around the forums a bit. Perhaps start at the announcements?
