XBMC on OUYA console

http://m.hexus.net/gaming/news/hardw...-running-xbmc/

Looks promising to me especially for early stages. I never honestly thought of this as a streamer until seeing this. All my rips are mkv so very interested. I like plex but Xbmc is still above it and more updated.

I'm looking forward to Plex on this little box -- I'll be getting one of the Kickstarter boxes early next month (or very late this month, they don't ship until the 28th).

Does it support hardware playback of all of the major HD file formats? They only mention H.264. I wonder how it does with high bitrate MPEG2.

Yes, the day after XBMC announced support for it.

Most recently: http://www.ouyareport.com/2013/03/plex-app-details.html

And if I understand correctly, Plex is running (beta) on Kepler already which I'm assuming is what's on the Ouya but don't quote me on that as I don't keep up with Android releases, at all.

Original announcement: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...e/posts/283782 (down the page a bit).

No idea. The Ouya is primarily a gaming console that will also run XBMC and Plex. I don't use XBMC so I can speak to how well it would play high bitrate MPEG2 video natively; Plex Media Server (installed elsewhere) will transcode anything the target client (Ouya) can't handle natively.

What about audio support? Will it bitstream TrueHD and DTSMA, and will it downconvert to 2.0 audio if the TV or receiver does not support it?

I wouldn't think it would take very long for the folks over at xda-developers to get a stock Android build running on this thing. . .

Which brings me to my next question. . .

Has anyone looked into using an ODROID?

Looks like a promising box but from what I understand, it will never support Netflix. Is this true?

Did you all see that the Plex dev team is currently working on a client release for the R-Pi? could be pretty awesome as well

I think anything running Android should be able to run the Netflix app. The device may need to be rooted and running stock Android, CM, or some other ROM though. And it probably wouldn't be HD, but it should be possible.
