EMMs when not in use

We've been away for a week and I have just noticed that no EMMS where recevied by OSCAM whilst we were away ( restarted the box before we went). We had nothing scheduled to record so no DVB-S tuners used during this time. Is this correct? Just thinking as we are going away later in the year for 3 weeks so may miss entitlement updates.

You are correct, no tuning no EMM updates. I think Sky boxes updates the EMM during the night automatically if the box is not used more than once in a day. Just set a 5 minutes manual recording once a week around 2AM and you should be fine.

Probably once every other day. Most times it looks like oscam has crashed.
Shall I safely assume that the new OsCAM build did the trick for you?

Hi, yes working well, although I do seem to have one issue. I'm getting picture breakup when watching the FTA HD channels. Only appears to be on the HD channels and not on SD channels.
Not sure if this is the new version or not but, noticed JREkiwi was getting a similar issue except I'm using the .exe and CGWIN files you provided.
Signal strength reported as being really low just for these channels and not others.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

The filter is working in a kind of bypass mode when watching unencrypted channels and during channel scan/preview. In both cases the filter cannot be 100% out of circuit because is a DirectShow filter that STV insert in its capturing graph at start-up. All HD channels have higher bitrate than SD and can make signal quality issues more evident.

Nothing to do with that, JREkiwi had (now fixed with OsCAM version #7889 I built for him) problem viewing more than 2 encrypted channels and he's currently using DVBLogic.
BTW, please use the official OsCAM along with the official filter released last week as they have modification designed to make them working better together. The version I gave you while ago were beta and should be discarded.

Just checked and all my FTA HD channels have signal strength of 98% and working properly. KingOfSat doesn't report any recent frequency changes on those channels.

Hope it helps

Omnikey 3021 smartcard reader

Though to share this experience as it might be useful to someone else.

Basically, I've always been using the Infinity USB smartcard reader and reasonably happy with it even if a little bit pricey, with good ECM performances (< 200msec), however sometimes OSCAM would report error on reading and not all the time OSCAM would be able to recover with consequential recording troubles

So, after being able to compile OSCAM with PCSC support I've decided to give a go with the Omnikey 3021 smartcard reader which is very cheap (you can find it at £12), but surprisingly very very good. If you have Windows 8 you don't even need to install any driver as the reader is recognised and the latests WHQL drivers are installed for you, also ECM speed are about 100msec and for recording 4 channel simultaneously from a single card is quite important

I've been using this reader for about 2 weeks now and it did work flawlessly, not one single reader error so far, so finger crossed

Cheers
Eddy

Hey Eddy, you should move the US, so you could solve our encryption and DRM issues.

Very difficult to say, you've got a couple of failing tuner initialisation messages so THIS is a good starting point to check tuner issues.

When did you start experiencing this issue? Is it before or after the last release (last week, manual update)? Is it happening on all channels or encrypted ones only?

When you stay stopping, do you mean when your watching live TV the show just stops.

I have noticed this issue since I updated to the version posted by Eddy. It's very random. This issue is happening on both encrypted and none encrypted channels. (DVB-C and DVB-T2). This is happening on two separate SageTV servers.

I have also noticed another issue. My 2x DVB-T2 tuners don't seem to work. When my system boots up for the first time I get 'No Signal' on both tuners. Only way to fix issue is to reboot server. But this doesn't always work. This happens once in every 5 days.

Both issues don't seem to happen at the same time.

Crash report

I had another crash notification reported with the latest version posted in the forum two weeks ago.

What I would like to know if whether the previous version did work ok or not. I did run through the modification already and honestly I couldn't find anything to justify such behaviour, however there where two changes that weren't strictly necessary that I reverted and I made another release which one of you have already to test and no failure being reported so far.

I really want to get this fixed as it doesn't happen to me at all and our daily schedule is quite busy with two kids and all their programs.

Thanks
Eddy

Eddy, I'm still using the last build you made for me and not the version that was posted on the forum. I haven't had any problems until I had 2 crashes in a row. Crashed about 15min in on an encrypted recording, then after restarting SageTV, crashed again about 15min in on the next encrypted recording. I rebooted my PC and haven't had any more failures.

John, the built you are currently using is basically the same as the release posted on the forum just less polished with more debugging messages.

Regarding rebooting your PC, interestingly I do switch off my STV server overnight, I wonder whether the problems starts to appear after few days without rebooting? Just a thought.

If you want I can send you the build I've made for the other user whom hasn't reported any problem as yet. That build has a couple of changes reverted to the version before last which weren't strictly necessary and after my investigation could potentially make the difference.

It is very difficult to test as it doesn't happen to me, but before doing the modification for supporting SkyNZ the filter has been very reliable for nearly two years.

Hi Eddy,

I have been using the version you sent me with mixed results.

The issue of playback just stopping has not appeared but I have not tested it fully.

The new version has introduced a new issue for me. But this might be down to my server. Going to do a full reinstall this week.

When I first tried the version you sent me every thing worked fine. I stopped the SageTV service copied over the new file. Started up Sage again and all was working. Next morning after a server reboot I just kept getting 'No Signal' this was on DVB-C and DVB-T. I rebooted the server about 5 time and still the same problem.

To get my system back up and working had to copy over the version you posted on here. Rebooted and everything worked. A few days ago I tried the version you sent me again, but this time it worked fine.

But every other day I seem to get a 'No Signal' when my server was shutdown the night before. Seems only why to fix it was to reboot or copy over an older version.

This might be a DVB-C issue and my server that is causing these issues. I never had any problems when I used the older version with DVB-S. Let me rebuild my server and report back to you. Might be a few days yet.

Hi Dean,

when you are saying that the previous official release did work without issues are you referring to post #25 or post #26 in the announcement thread?

The reason I ask is because post #25 refers to the oscam and filter combo only and post #26 to the plugin only which is more likely to produce your 'no signal' issue. All the three component must be kept in sync.

When you are rebuilding your sever please make sure to install the DVB Decrypter plugin only which will install the right othet dependencies and after that just overwrite the filter with the version I sent to you and nothing else, also when doing this experiment please use a stock version of STV without any other plugins.

Eddy

Hi thanks for letting me know however you should run the test with all your tuners otherwise you are making two changes at once and you will never know which one made the system working.
