can't load default stv

Around the same time as when the forum was down for a bit and stuckless created the phoenix jar repair utility, I started having problems with the default UI and starting sage.

As it stands now, I can't load the default STV at all. If sage tries to start with it selected in the properties file (on client PC or the server PC) it either hangs at the "user interface initializing" message (server) or appears to start but then disappears (still visible in Task Manager, needs to be shut down there - client PC). I have an MVP that is completely unaffected.

Other strange behaviour: I cannot load any 'default UI' screens like the detailed setup screen, I just get the main menu instead. Every time I try to start sage I have to first go into the properties file and tell it to load phoenix.xml (it always defaults back to sagetv7.xml, which doesn't work).

Today I tried to do an in-place reinstall, with a new wiz.bin and properties files. SageTV will not start (hangs on User Interface Initializing message) until I put the old properties file back and tell it to use phoenix.

So, what's up with that? Is my sagetv7.xml somehow corrupted (I can open and read it, it looks fine at first glance)? What should I do to recover - do I need to uninstall and reinstall?

I just read this thread (skipped it at first because I'm on win7 64bit), sounds like it may be related but not entirely the same thing...

It does sound a bit like that... I'm not sure what is causing the issue for clients.

Did you run the jar clean up utility that I has posted to make sure that all the jars are "refreshed" and extracted correctly?

I have, a few times.

I actually noticed an error in my OP. I said that I couldn't load sage with the default UI on either the server or the client, but what I meant was I can't load sage with sagetv7.xml selected in either the server or client properties files. Interestingly, I have the exact opposite problem on my client PC - I can run the default UI but not phoenix...

Hi Sean,

can you share some debug jars (debug logging)? I can install and send you the logs... (dont see a log4j file that I can otherwise set...)

sound like a plan?

is this the right file 'phoenix-metadata.log4j.properties' ?

can you possible send a set of jars that has 'extra' debug put in around the initialization so we can narrow this thing down?

you have done a lot of great work and we cannot benefit from it right now...

Phoenix logging is already enabled... should be in logs/phoenix.log. This issue, is that I don't really know "what" to add in for logging, since I can't really tell where it's failing. Based on the previous logs I saw, it appears to die on the menu loading... but I can't see how that is possible, since loading menus is just an operation of reading xml and translating it into something the Phoenix understands.

Unfortunately, I've been extremely busy these last few weeks with other projects (non sagetv related) so I haven't had time to get back to SageTV development

I can't promise... but I'll try to create a phoenix jar this weekend with more debug logging and see what happens... I've actually been meaning to try and install the client on a win7 machine and see if I can reproduce the issue... but again... time is the bottleneck
