Improving wireless streaming.
I am new to Sage, and I am testing out the software, it's very impressive.
My Server = an i3 2550 with Sage v7 server on 150 Mbs / wireless N stream to my laptop via wireless G / 54Mbs the playback via HD is very choppy and unwatchable if I pause the client and wait about 5 min the hit play I get smooth playback for about 2 min. I assume this is a wireless speed problem, wondering if I can expect smooth playback if I put in a wireless "n" into the laptop. or If there is a server setting that I can set to some how reduce the stream quality as it sends video to the client. I saw a setting that was standard or best and I already had it on standard. Any advice to get this working well? Running a cat5 cable isn't feasible. Thanks |

You could change the stream quality if you were using placeshifter on your laptop, but with the full client you can't as it plays the original video file. If you only have 54mbps, you aren't going to have very good results trying to use sage wirelessly. If your router has good signal strength you should be able to get a decent USB adapter for 150mbps and will be ok.

You mention that running the cable isn't an option ... what about a good quality ethernet powerline adapter? I usually recommend to try and purchase locally as they can be hit or miss depending on the distance and home wiring.

I have successfully ran HD over wireless for years without any issues. This is the thread where I posted all of the information about what to be careful of and what to do to implement it successfully. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54509
Take a read on this and if you have more questions I will try to answer them the best I can. Hope this helps, Protoman
