Shoot! SageTV + PVR250 error
Well, I was so excited to have a TV program that I could actually use, I went ahead and removed the Hauppauge WinTV2k and TV Scheduler programs. All seemed fine, until I tried to run SageTV again. Now I get this when I try to watch a video, both recorded AND live:
There was an error with the MPEG-2 video setup. Please consult the log file and report the error. Failed connecting MPEG2 video stream using DirectX Video Acceleration media type. The "TV" screen comes up, and I get audio but no video. I can't find a log file, either in the SageTV folder, the Windows System folder, or in the video folder. Does anyone have any suggestions? Uh, that is, that don't involve reinstalling the bad Hauppauge software? (heh) Thanks! Rob |

Ooooookaaaaaaaayyyyy...
The answer is, "Hey, Rob - reboot and try again!" It all works fine now. Oy. (But I am still concerned that I couldn't find a log file) Sorry for the false alarm... R |

I also should mention that this happened using the PowerDVD decoder, while the actual Hauppauge Intervideo decoder was working fine. (except for that it doesn't look as nice)
False alarms left and right. Last edited by rrussell; 05-20-2003 at 06:43 AM. |

That odd you shouldn't have to but as long it works that what counts.

Release versions don't create log files....I should probably change the error message to reflect that.

Rebooting didn't help
I am running an instance of Sage Client on a P4 2.4ghz machine w/ a Radeon 9000. I have installed all ATI software I could find (but if you think some could be missing, or it would explain the behaviour I see, please speak up anyways). I used GraphEdit to find the name of the ATI Video Decoder and its pins.... My sageclient.properties entry for additional filters looks like: videoframe/additional_video_filters=CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI),Video In,Video Out With rendering mode set to Overlay (why this isn't labelled default I don't know, considering it was default on the first run), it plays fine until I try to force DirectX Video Acceleration. None of the MPEG Modes work but default. I have tried using 'Defult (Uses VMR on XP)' and then it doesn't play. DXVA or not, it spits out: Unable to find the specified MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter The error I get using overlay and forcing DXVA is: Failed Connecting MPEG2 Video Stream Using DirectX Video Accerlation media type Acceleration was mispelled in the error message, I am quoting it as it was displayed in hopes it will make it easier to track down where the error is generated in the program. I know the Radeon 9000 supports DXVA, Jeff was kind enough look it up for me. I even went to the extreme of formatting the box and reinstalling everything from scratch, in hope that it was a corrupt driver or any of the other million things windoz does to itself. All of this makes me eager for a linux version. There I can look at what's going on in the kernel, /proc and /dev. I am using DirectX 9.0a, sage client ver 1.3.8, xp pro (fully updated), and the cyberlink ATI mpeg2 decoder. Again the Cyberlink ATI works fine until I force DXVA. I have searched the registry for 'DXVA' but found only one mention in the under HKLM/Software/ATI Technologies/Multimedia/Cyberlink/PowerDVD/TwinviewDXVA It is set to 1, & I really don't think its related Any help and advice would be GREATLY appreciated

Marty, you've resolved this now, haven't you?

Yes & No
Sort of. I found another decoder in graphedit that appears to work w/ DxVA, but I'm not sure if the cyberlink would be better or worse, the one that worked was not labelled cyberlink.

Here's the link: http://www.freytechnologies.com/foru...=&threadid=284 It may not bring CPU usage much lower, but it will look nicer. My CPU usage got cut in half from 60% to about 30%. It also deinterlaces much better, IMO, than DScaler does with my setup. Lauren |

Lauren,
I talked with Jeff about this. This system is actually a multi-tuner sage server, and there are no hauppage cards in any of the client machines used for playback. I am using the Intervideo filters that come with WinDVD. These filters have had their own problems on some machines (including fully rebooting the machine fifteen seconds into playback). I am testing now to see if that error is specific to that client system. There are more criteria driving my choice behind the cyberlink ATI filters, and I would ideally like to be able to use those for both TV and DVD playback. Thanks for the help.

I have seen this happen when some other application is grabbing the display. Do you have anything else recording or displaying video running?
Also, which MPEG2 decoders are you using? Last edited by mlbdude; 10-07-2003 at 05:55 PM. |
