Stuff not working after Windows 8 upgrade
I installed Windows 8 (64-bit) on a system that had been running XP. I re-installed v7.19 on top of the existing installation, as I have done successfully in the past. However, I can't get SageTV to recognize the presence of the USB-UIRT, nor can I get it to send command via the exemultituner plugin. Both features show up in their respective setup screens.
Is there some trick to running these thing under Windows 8? |

Did you download the new USBIRT drivers?

Yes. The device appears installed in Device Manager and blinks when IR is detected. It just does not show as receiving commands in the 'Commands' screen ...

I placed this into the Software subforum, but it's been moved. My question was not really about getting the USB-UIRT to work, it was about identifying if the are fundamental pitfalls to running the software with 64- bit Windows 8. Any help or experiences would be greatly appreciated ...

The USB-IRT works fine in windows 8 64 your problem might be with the exemultituner plugin. I have never used it ... so I cannot help you with it. I use the usbuirt both with Sagetv internal support and eventghost and it works just fine in windows 8 64 bit.

Yes, I am able to select USB-UIRT in the setup screen, the light blinks, but the "Show Command Linked" screen does not detect anything ...

No, I installed Windows to a fresh partition. This system is only used as a Sage system, so I don't add any extraneous software or settings. Perhaps my memory is shaky, but I thought the USB-UIRT originally included some utility software. There does not seem to be anything like that on the website now ...

try uninstalling usbuirt. reinstall sagetv. don't start service. reinstall uirt drivers. restart computer. start sagetv. not service, try to use uirt again.

I've tried un-installing and re-installing the USB-UIRT a couple of times without any success. I don't run Sage as a service; it's just a standard desktop installation. I'm reluctant to uninstall and re-install Sage because it's really tedious going through the channel setup with the DirecTV listings.
I did attach a DVico Fusion USB MCE remote and was able to run that without incident; even though it's using an old 32-bit driver ... |

Are you trying to use the USBuirt for both transmitting and recieving (to control a STB and to receive commands from a remote control)? If you are, make sure you are running the latest drivers. uuirt.dll version 2.6.9.9 (released as a beta in 2010) was the first version to work properly with Win7 or newer.
It looks like the download link for the driver on the USBUIRT website today is labeled "2.06.01" (if you download it, the uuirt.dll inside is actually labeled 2.7.0.0). I haven't tested this one, but I assume that it should work.

You could also get the lrnhelper app so you can see if the usbuirt is processing the remote key presses, but make sure you exit sage first or it will lock up the system.

Turns out that Windows 8 does not like my powered, USB hub. The USB-UIRT (as well as the Fusion MCE Remote adapter) don't respond when connected to the hub, but do so when connected to the onboard port. It's the dardest thing, because I have two USB ATSC tuners connected to the hub, and they perform as expected ...

It seems like the first rule of USB troubleshooting is to try a different port. I have had issues with ports before and I'm surprised at how often changing ports solves the problem.
