New Gemstone update?

I updated gemstone when I got the notification and noticed the widgets now properly show the show title instead of subtitle but I was curious what else changed since I don't see any news about it here in the forums.

We are working on the new STV release so hope to have it out really soon.

The API was updated to get ready for the release but we have a couple little things to sort out before sending the STV out.

All the normal release announcements and notes will be posted etc... when we are done.

I suspect the question is coming up because the "Gemstone z API" is defined as a General plugin rather than a Library plugin, so SageTV displayed a notification when the version was updated in the repository.

Yah... I needed to do that to allow for the plugin interface (a library plugin cannot do that)... and I likely should not have pushed the change yet as we are just about there with the rest but need a little more time..

Likely you will not see any issues using the newer API but you don't need to update until the STV is pushed out.

BTW.... LOTS has changed and we will get the release out soon including a list.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but Im curious if there are going to be any incompatibility issues with sageTV plugins if we upgrade to an STV-based Gemstone release. I remember that 3rd party plugin compatibility was the reason why I didnt use the Phoenix STV (there wasn't support for some of my plugins).

Also, how would future Youtube fixes be handled?

Not a dumb question... but keep in mind that Phoenix is a standalone, built from scratch STV and therefore can only support plugins written specifically for it.

Gemstone is the SageTV STV with the Gemstone STVi imported already. Therefore it will support ALL plugins that it would have supported if we left it as a separate STVi import plugin.

We chose to release it as an STV ONLY because it actually handles memory/heap much better running this way.

As for future releases of the SageTV STV's for YouTube etc.... Gemstone would not include those updates until we release a new Gemstone version... which we plan to do regularly so this should not be an issue...

I see no real risk and as for nearly 1000 downloads of the last release I imagine that most people agree... But YMMV

Yup! I had Sage shut down...just started it and updated to the full monty!

Edit: Are we still supply our own backgrounds? I thought a "Theme Package" was being worked on?

Sorry I am a bit slow on the backgrounds. It will be a separate plugin that I hope to post soon. The functionality to replace or assign custom backgrounds is all working in Gemstone, just need to get the image sets collected/sorted/grouped and then post them.
