Ripped DVD's using Video decoders

Anyone else notice that when you play DVD ripped from the hard drive that Sage uses the decoder and renderer configuration from the Video setup and not the DVD setup?

Seems like it should use the DVD settings - especially since it is smart enough to flag it as a DVD making the DVD UI and menu's available.

I think so. Whatever format and structure DVD Shrink dumps out.

My Sage install uses the DVD settings just like it should.

Did you guys have to do anything special to play DVDs (if you import the VOBs it probably imports them as Video).

I'm not sure if it is doable or maybe it can already be done and I just don't know how, but it would be nice if your awsome .stv would allow the use of the external dvd player to play the ripped dvd's.

I may update it to use the external one if I can't figure this out.

stanger89, I noticed it mainly since I started to use Overlay for video and VMR9 for DVD. Maybe those are the only items not working for me, I have not tested further.

I don't have VOB as a type to import.

I assume you're using the standard directory structure drive:\somefolder(optional)\Moviename\VIDEO_TS\(dvdfiles)

Yeah. Sage recognizes it as a DVD.

Well I assume VOBs are getting imported as video so that's probably why you're seening Sage use the Video Settings (are you seeing the different DVD OSD when viewing vobs)?

As for importing DVDs:
1) Which decoders?
2) How are you ripping them (DVDShrink)?
3) Where are you ripping them to (what's the path)?

Its odd. Sage seems to use the decoder settings from the DVD menu, but not the renderer. I guess I will submit a bug report. Let me know if anyone comes up with a fix.

yeah it did not seem to matter what video decoder
tried cyberlink and cinemaster
why should it matter how I ripped them ?(used smart ripper)
I just ripped it to my desktop then threw all the files in a folder and then named it VIDEO_TS
and threw it in a folder that has the DVDs name

sage lets me get to where I can watch it then errors when I say watch now

does it matter that I have not included the menus?

I really just did not want them

just play the movie!

also mlbdude have you tried enabling 3d acceleration

I have mine set the same way with overlay for TV with 3d acceleration and DVD for VMR9 so I have no problems when I tried to watch a DVD with VMR9 rendering

My only thought is that DVDShrink is the only program I've seen (other than IFOEdit) that can strip just the movie from a DVD. All the other programs (Smartripper, DVD Decrypter) always gave me problems. The only way I ever got the other programs to work was to rip in file mode, and to rip everything.

Serously, just download DVD Shrink and give it a shot.

I have 3D Acceleration enabled, for Video I have Overlay with Sonic decoders and for DVD I Have NVDVD with VMR9. When playing a DVD I get the NVDVD tray icon, but it comes up in Overlay with a non transparent OSD. If I change the renderer in Video to VMR9 the DVD starts to use VMR9.

I agree, DVD Shrink is the only app I have used that seems to be trouble free.

In Studio I can see that the media is being detected as a DVD and NOT a video file. Just the fact that Sage loads the decoder from the DVD configuration but ignores the render makes it look more like a bug rather than a configuration issue. Though anything is possible.

How do you get Sage to see where the dvd is at. do you import it into the library? do you have some properties or dvd drive settings that point to the ripped dvd? This bug might help out my friend, since he wants to play ripped dvds out his 350's hardware decoder, but in the dvd setup, there is no 350 decoder selection for codec.
And what settings do you use on dvd shrink?
