Any Status On Ongoing EPG

Here we are into November is there any Status about continuing or discontinuing the EPG. I would like to know ASAP as I have several people I support that I will need to find alternatives EPG if it is being discontinued.

Google should know by now if they intend to keep the EPG up and running.

I think, long term, it will depend on if Google Fiber is using the same EPG services. If it is, you can pretty much count on it continuing to work.

Fingers crossed, because the current provider of bulk data to Sage, Tribune, is pretty much the best in the business anyway (for North America at least).

This is my view as well. I think Fiber and Sage are now using the same service from Tribune so unless Tribune makes some big changes that Sage can't easily adapt to we will probably have EPG for the forseeable future.

If not there is always Slugger's EPG plugin.

This is all well and Good but some official word would be great ... if it was just my setup I would have no problem but I have several other setups that I will need to change or not.

I would need a few weeks ... I have about 6 other Sage users that I do support for.

The sagetv-dev group is no longer (it was a way for them to keep in contact with some of the community devs, I believe in case google wanted to shut down the forums). Support is gained through the following link (stickied at the top of the forum):

I asked officially awhile back about what the user base could do to keep the EPG service going and the answer I got (although it was non commital) was to not worry about it an if there was a change we would be given lots of warning.

I believe Brent also posted something pretty much the same so I feel good there will be lots of warning if the service was going to end. If anyone would know Brent would.

Nothing to worry about in the next few years (at the earliest) imo. There are certainly no guarantees in this world, but I believe the EPG data for Google Fiber TV is likely the same.

Response from Sage support.

"We are going to offer EPG at least until the end of this year. I don't know what the status is for anything beyond that."

I hate to speculate, but it seems weird to me that they (Jeff, Google, et al.) aren't ready to commit to EPG services beyond Dec 31 at this point in the year especially when I (and others) have been assuming that the Google Fibre boxes are using the same EPG source as Sage. Given that assumption, it just seemed logical to me that Sage would continue to have access to the EPG data indefinitely. But if that were the case, why wouldn't they have just said so by now?

Again, I'm just speculating, but at this point of the year, no news seems like bad news, imho. If their last response on this was an open ended availability then I wouldn't be nearly as concerned, but their last response was a promise thru Dec 31. Undoubtedly, as Dec 31 approaches people are going to start getting worried and it would just seem logical to me that they would gladly tell people all is good into 2013, if that were the case. Why hold such news back? Assuming we'd receive the common courtesy of at least 30 days notice of the EPG service EOL, I guess no news is reason for concern until Dec 2 and then it might be safe to assume that no news just means the status quo on Jan 1. Anyway, just my thoughts on the situation.

I'm also speculating, but I think just the opposite. There is no way (IMHO) Google would just stop the EPG service without warning. I'd rather hear nothing rather than a notice telling us the EPG service will be discontinued in x months.

Well they did warn they said it will be offered through the end of this year so that means if they say nothing expect it to go away. It is like a warranty if it expires at a certain date and is not extended then it is too darn bad.

IMHO they gave us 2 years to find alternatives.

Jeff uses SageTV at his own home. I'm willing to bet we still have EPG service this time next year.

There own words were it would be available at least until 12/31. They never said it would end on 12/31.

I stand by my bet.
