OEM PVR-250 Status?

Will Frey be selling the bare OEM PVR-250 anytime soon?
I remember a thread from a few weeks back suggesting it was a possibility.
I have been kind of holding off buying another card until I see what you were going to do.
I don't need built in infrared support on a second PVR-250 card and if it could be had for under $100 that would be perfect.

Thanks Guys

We are waiting on the OEM card from Hauppauge to do some further testing. We hope to make it available in the next couple weeks. The card will not come with IR and it will be priced below $100.

Great news. It should work fantastic for a second tuner.

Awesome - if these will coexist peacefully in the same box with my single (retail) -16 PVR 250, I'll happily pre-order them now Please let us know as soon as you're ready! Thanks!

That's a good point. I would like a second card, but I have the V15 version of the PVR-250. Can a V16 and V15 peacefully coexist? The weird thing is I just got my PVR-250 and it has the heat sink over the chip, so it must be a V15 even though it came with the silver remote and was packaged in August. How do I know it was packaged in August? The CDROM that came in the box had the latest drivers on it and some files had a mid-August 2003 date. So it seems that even if you get a recently packaged box, you can still end up with the older V15. It really must be just the luck of the draw.

jglev,
I just got my PVR-250 as well, with attached heatsink and 8/xx/2003 version drivers. I presumed that it's a -16 version because of the heatsink (the -15 didn't have a heatsink, right?) Correct me if I'm wrong... Thanks,

-Troy

Troy,

According to previous posts somewhere here at Frey and according to http://www.shspvr.com/ which has pictures of both versions, the V15 has the heatsink, the V16 does not. I wish I were wrong, but I am pretty sure that I am not.

Jglev,
Ouch... it looks like you're right (according to the pictures on shspvr.com.)
It might be OK, though, I saw some verbiage about 'unified -15/-16 drivers' somewhere in the driver documentation... I guess I'll have to wait and see. I realllly need to add more tuners to my system (1 just isn't very elegant), so hopefully that OEM card will be available soon

Yeah, it kinda sucks I suppose although I don't know what the differences are. The quality of the picture from my card is excellent.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the two versions (besides the chip number and he heatsink)? Is there some advantage to the v16 over v15?

Thanks,

Runs cooler, that's for sure. I've used both (though not at the same time) and didn't notice any picture difference.

I have some bad news about the OEM PVR-250 cards. Since the requirements of the new Media Center PCs has changed, the old board has been discontinued and they will be adding a FM tuner to the new design. Due to this, Hauppauge has discontinued the old card.

But I will be ordering an inventory of the retail PVR-250 card soon and we will drop the price of the card to $120 compared to the retail price of $150. If you want to be notified when the shipment comes in and the card is available at the new price, send me an e-mail to info@freytechnologies.com.

Sorry for the confusion on this, but I just found out today about this change.

Dan

Sounds good.

Now if we could only get a 'swap meet' setup for those of us that have one version 15 and one version 16 card to trade cards so everyone has the right versions we would be in good shape...

Actually, I should just try to sell one on Ebay. Even though they are currently coexisting peacefully.

Jason
