Just to make sure, but you are opening "Generic Image.tib" with True Image, not the download .torrent file, correct?

Yes.

I installed "ATIH2013_trial_en-US.exe" with a 30-day trial S/N, then used it to create a recovery ISO, which I booted. I then tried to restore the "Generic Image.tib" from a samba share, and it told me the image was corrupt. I managed to get to a shell(*), and confirmed that I'm seeing the same MD5 hash for the .tib file from the true image recovery disk as I am on the samba server.

It is possible the machine itself is suspect. This is the first machine I've built in years w/o ECC ram, and I have not done much of a burn in on it yet.

Drew

(*) It turns out that the true image recovery disk is a linux boot disk, and you can get a command line shell by some combination of ctrl-alt-f1 or ctrl-alt-f2.

How to configure a remote

Can anybody explain to me how to get a SageTV remote working with this box?

I have the box running with the A3700-specific image (thanks a million, Panteragstk -- getting this going with your image was as easy as falling off a log), and I have a USB-UIRT attached. But SageTV does not respond to commands from the remote.

I guess I do not understand the relationship between the USB-UIRT (which I bought a couple of years ago but have never used), EventGhost (which I have never used (or heard of) before this), and SageTV. What do I have to do to get these components working together?

You will have to teach EventGhost each of your commands. EventGhost is set up to send commands to the appropriate programs, but it needs to know what ou are using for a remote, so you will have to let it learn all the commands.

So, Remote -> EventGhost -> SageTV/MPC/etc
This is the ^^ part you need to do.

I read earlier in the thread that it's not as good as the "HT pc"--but how is the performance compared to say an HD200 or HD300?

I don't have an extender so I wouldn't know. It's pretty fast though. No menu lag depending on the plugin you use. I turn off all animations to make it a bit faster.

Yep. Full quality. It's pretty fast. The only issue so far with it in full production is that when the wifi changes speeds, the video can stop. I have a great router so I know that isn't it. It's pretty far from the router too. It "only" connects at 72mb so that may be my issue. I'm going to grab an ASUS access point and see if it helps.

Running it where it needs to go without ripping out drywall would be next to impossible. Otherwise, you sir are correct. I wish I had cable runs everywhere I needed them. I can only wish though.

Drywall, spackle and paint are also cheap... Seriously, don't be afraid to cut holes in your home. They can all be patched as good as new.

If I owned the house it would already be done. Some day...

You might try HomePlug/HPNA networking instead. Most people recommend the following order for HD video. Cat5e+, MoCA, HomePlug/HPNA, sneaker net, then WiFi.

WiFi was never made to steam data in real time, and SageTV always assumed real time (very little buffer).

I stream 1080i and 720p recordings to a wifi SageTV PC client all the time on my LAN. You just need to make sure that you're not suffering from a lot of interference (try different channels), get a strong enough signal, and are using wireless-N.

(My content is stored on a WHS box, connected to a gigabit switch of course).

Tried home plug and it was terrible. Granted a forum member was nice enough to let me borrow them, so I didn't pick them, but performance was horrible.

Using an asus RT-N66u so my signal strength is very high. I have it on the least populated channel so that isn't the issue. The foxconn doesn't have a dual band adapter or I would use 5ghz.

When someone with an extender inevitably tries this, please post how the performance is relative to, say, and HD200. I'm really itching to try this, but I just can't justify the cost since I don't really need another extender. If it's faster than an HD200, however... maybe I could justify it to myself as a 'needed upgrade'.

I set up Win 8 instead of this image on my A3700, so your mileage may vary. But the Phoenix UI is much faster and much smoother and much crisper than an HD300. Starting and stopping recordings with Phoenix is about the same (I guess that's to be expected). I'm still trying to iron out flawless playback with 1080i (had some unresponsiveness and black screening).

I had to use the TMT5 decoders for anything 1080i. Nothing else worked properly. Didn't try all that many though.

What's the easiest way to install TMT5 decoder these days? I believe that the last time I installed it, I was required to attach one of my HDPVRs, which was a pain.
