Gemstone - grouping question

I like Gemstone very much but there is one thing I cannot tweak - I know it's probably staring me right in the face but I haven't been able to find it.

Before Gemstone, grouping in my list of TV recordings was set to Title and if there was only one episode, it would show the title of the show and underneath the episode name. If there was more than one episode there would be a folder with the show name and within that each episode listed separately (show name with episode name underneath)

In Gemstone, with the same grouping checked, each show is in a folder and within the folder, the single episode. I've attached images to show what I mean.

Is there anyway I can get the listings to show individual episodes as they were before Gemstone?

Thanks!!

I don't know the answer to this. It may not be possible.

However, you're using the old Diamond views, and I know that the guys are trying to move away from them and focus on the new Flows. You should take a look at the flows and see if there's one that you like. There are screenshots of each of them in the screen captures thread, and there's quite a bit of customization for each as well.

It took me a little while to get used to them... I thought I wouldn't like them but after a week or two I don't really miss the old ones. There are a few features missing from the flows, but they are planning to add them in future releases.

I posted some step-by-step instructions on creating a flow for TV here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59150

I think that was an old problem from the Diamond days where we had an issue with applying Group fanart to a single item in the default Sagetv Recordings code so this was the result.

If you turn on the Gemstone Info you can turn on an optional listing of the recordings on the right and if you hit play on that menu grouping item it will start it up without having to drill into the folder first. Or you select then "Play all..."

Not sure that this helps.

Thanks for both your replies.

re: flows - I guess I'm not a "flow" person - I prefer lists that let me see a lot at once and I like words more than images. But thank you for pointing me to the detailed instructions in case I do decide to go that way.

As for the second suggestion - sounds interesting but I just can't figure out where Gemstone Info is and how to turn it on - I had my menus all changed before Gemstone when I used ADM so finding stock items can be a challenge. so, if you can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!

There are several flows that look similar to the screenshots you posted.

To turn on Gemstone Info, press "options" from the TV view, choose "customize" and you'll see "Use Gemstone Info" on the list. If you change it to "Yes" there are some additional sub-options, including one that allows you to show an episode list.

Ah! I did have those options checked. (Gemstone Info) - had just forgotten the name of the view.

I'll explore flows - I thought they were all images - I've never really explored them.

Just tried again now and discovered the different types so have come up with a preliminary flow that is getting near what I want. But I can't seem to get rid of the intermediate screen - i click on the show title and the next screen is a Season screen which I have to click to get into episodes - even for shows with only one episode so I'm no better off than before. I liked being able to click on the top level and have the episode play.

I'll try again in a few days - right now I'm just getting myself into more trouble than good - thank goodness Sage can be backed up by just saving the directory - one of my favorite features!

Thanks for you help - I've learned a lot today

Glad I could help.

You can turn off seasons entirely such that all the episodes are on one page without an intermediate seasons screen. But you can't yet have it use a seasons screen when there are >1 episode and no seasons when there is only one episode. This is a known limitation that should be addressed in a future update.

And in the customize under options you can turn on play options. Then on a series you press play and the next episode is right there for you to press select or play again...real quick and it's the way I use it many times a day

I started fresh and did some reading first and now I have a decent flow - some of the show images are garbled (flashpoint instead of fringe!) but it all seems to work fine.

And I have one tiny little librarian's peeve - the shows starting with A and The list alphabetically under A and The and not the next word as they did previously but I'm sure that will be tackled when the big stuff is done!

And I do like that "Show Play Options" so thanks for that!

Thank you to everyone - I'm now gemstone-d and flowing.

Detailed Setup -> Customize -> "Ignore leading articles during text sorting".

I think this applies to Gemstone as well as the default SageTV. I know my lists are sorted correctly, in any case.

That will do it.

Thanks, Dargason

I hadn't even noticed that option - it's like peeling an onion - there's always another level.

THANK YOU!

Another question! Not sure if I should post it here or start a new thread - it's a small question and, again, probably completely obvious but I have searched all over.

In Flows, is there any way to show episode description? In the right panel for Blue Bloods, for instance, it just has a small icon, name of show, 1 item, and episode title Domestic Disturbance. Whereas in my regular listing the episode info is present - I know there is a setting on this menu under Grouped Options to turn "Show Episode Description" on and off but I can't find a similar switch for flows.

Also is there any way yet to adjust font size in the main menu of a flow? Not vital...but I wouldn't mind them a tad larger.

Have you tried the Inline Flow?

It is meant for a one page display without having to drill down as much.

You can use a VFS like TV Shows (Recent) and if you select/right on the selected show it will give you a scrollable list of shows "inline" with their descriptions below.

Inline is perfect, thanks. I guess I'm still suffering from information overload and never thought to try a different type of flow.

It had already taken me so long to figure out how to get all my viewing displayed - movies and TV shows together (I like one menu with everything listed). Finally I figured out that I had to go to View Options - Filters - Folder Filters to define the directories I wanted indexed and then have Video Imports by Folder as my selected view.

I assume that VFS refers to views? I have to say that one of the biggest problems I have in finding information on the forum is the inability to search on terms with 3 letters - so many of the important terms, abbreviations or acronyms have only 3 letters - BMT for one - and, since they are meaningless to me, I have to go to google search to find anything. Unless there is a glossary somewhere?

Anyway - I'm getting there with the flows - thank goodness for this forum!

Did you ever figure out how to get these results?

Like you, I prefer to have the folder group only when >1 episode

just started playing on with gemstone on my laptop...checking out the sage flow view

This is a known limitation related to the phoenix core that will be corrected in a future release. (I think I got that right. )
