Full screen exclusive switches to 720p - any way to disable?

Hi,

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, a modern ATI graphics card, reasonably up to date drivers. I have a rather odd problem. If I enable full screen exclusive mode and go full screen my display resolution changes to 720p. Normally I am running in 1080p. Does anyone know the source of this oddity and can tell me how to disable it?

Without enabling full screen exclusive the taskbar hangs around and while I have a way of hiding it, as soon as I press a button on my remote it comes back (possibly because Girder pings a notification somewhere). I haven't found a way of getting rid of the taskbar that works reliably. Nothing else seems to have problems going full screen over the taskbar :-| Any hints on that topic would be a good alternative!

Ah, just spotted the font scaling thing.

It turns out that it interacts with http://www.aviassin.com/taskbareliminator in a strange way. If you use Taskbar Eliminator to eliminate your taskbar, it will come back. If you leave it unhidden, the font scaling trick works. Shame that YouTube/flash videos don't go full screen over the taskbar or I could get rid of Taskbar Eliminator completely.
