SageTV and WMC on same Windows 7 PC?

Does anyone know if it is possible to run both SageTV (latest version 7.X) and Windows Media Center 7 on the same headless PC? (and be able to simultaneously serve extenders for each?)

SageTV would be running as a service. I currently have separate PCs for each using cablecard tuners. HDHR Prime for SageTV/SageDCT. Ceton for WMC7. Would be interested in potentially combining.

The WMC PC has been kind of an experiment, with SageTV being my primary preferred system with HD300 extenders. My provider, Verizon FIOS, is going to start setting CCI flags (to something other than copy freely) on some channels soon, so I am working on alternatives...

Should be fine (though I don't have an HDx00 boxes to test the extender setup). I've been running WMC and SageTV on all three of my PCs for a couple of years now.

Do mean they're going to start encrypting local channels soon? Because everything else is already encrypted...

Right now on FIOS, everything is flagged as copy freely (in the CCI flag). Verizon has sent out a letter stating that now some premium content will have the copy flag set differently. This will make SageTV/SageDCT unable to see those channels using a cablecard tuner.

If things remained as they are today, I would have no need for WMC.

I will try setting up WMC on my SageTV server in the near future. Hopefully they will both work and I can save on electricity.

You appear to be confusing encrypton (an access control measure) with the CCI flags (a rights enforcement measure). They are not the same thing...to wit, all FIOS channels, except locals, are encrypted and always have been and may only be accessed using an authorized and activated STB or cable card device, including ones flagged "copy freely" (or those not flagged at all).

As long as your FIOS box has component outputs you can stay with Sage with HD-PVRs. Not as nice as having integrated tuning but fewer issues with DRM measures like this.

Scan the letter from FIOS and post it here. I have FIOS and have not receive any letters about such changes.

As for running WMC and SageTV on the same box, and if you don't have PCI tuner cards, then I suggest running each in it's own OS in VMware Workstation. I recently did a server hardware upgrade and went with Vmware guest OS for SageTV and it is working well with an HDHR and HDHR Prime. The best part is I have snapshot backups of these virtual OS, and it's easy to transfer it to any hardware in the future.
