Windows MCE and SageTV
Is it possible to install and run SageTV on a Windows MCE machine?

Sure is. Just make sure that if you installed the tuners in MCE that you disable the two MCE services before using Sage.

Thanks for the answer!
I just want to experiment with MCE, but when it does not meet my expectations I want to switch back to SageTV, without installing Windows XP again. (So, by not using the "green button" it should work?)

Yeah if you have the MCE remote, the green button will launch the MCE app. Other than that MCE is very close to XP pro as long as you don't need to join a domain.

Can't join a domain in Windows MCE?? Yuck!
So it sounds to me that Windows MCE is basically Windows Home Edition with the DVR functions... Well that's a show stopper for me as I have a PDC in my network and many other functions on my home network rely on a domain configuration. I know I could still use the OS... but still.... Quote:

Can't figure out why Microsoft would do that. Generally speaking, technically inclined users are the majority who would attempt such a project as creating a HTPC... and the ability to join a domain is a function these types of users, like myself, would sorely miss. However it really doesn't bother me too much as I am a SageTV user. From what I have read, MLBDude's MCE STV is an exact replication of the Windows MCE experience. If this is the case....then I pass. No offense to MLBDude, as he has only duplicated what M$ had created, but I think that the MCE layout is too "busy". I prefer MLBdude's older MLBDUDE2.STV which is very much like Tivo....simple and to the point.

The lack of domain membership has something to do with fast user switching which is or was required for an extender. I think the next version will not have that limitation.
While technical users typically do HTPC stuff, MS is intending to try and also include the users that would otherwise be intimidated by the thought. The eHome team just won a nice award for best UI. Overall I think it is really nice and the more you use it the more you come to appreciate each little detail. |

I would have to agree on the mlbdude MCE STV. This was the only interface the wife took an immediate liking to. And to be honest she is able to work with it with hardly a question. Now if I can just get her to watch all of what she records.
