How can I prevent getting "sage.PlaybackException: ERROR" for BD media w/ subtitles?

Every time I try to play a media file with embedded subtitles, sageTV Windows client gives a "sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80004005). I realize that SageTV client has no support for subtitles; but, can't figure out how to at least play my media without seeing subtitles.

This happens on any media file which produced a Subtitle pinout no the directshow splitter.

I vaguely remember being able to play this kind of media in the past; just, without subtitles. I'm not sure why the media wont playback at all.

I first thought this was related to the splitter I'm using (LAV splitter). However, when I play BD ISOs (which sageTV uses it's own demux for), it still has the same problem.

Edit: I was able to at least prevent this from happening when configuring LAV splitter correctly for subtitles. I can even view subtitles under sageTV using ffdshow subtitles.

However, I am forced to use the sagetV demux for bluray movies on the sageTV client. I get the exception error. I haven't heard anyone complain of this before AFAIK. However, something this basic, I'm guessing someone would have noticed this by now.

I'd love to be able to help, but the only Bluray I have that has subtitles is Avatar, and I cant even make it play inside Sage Client. I've since given up and am using Fuzzy's play externally app to play blurays inside TMT5.

When I try to play Avatar BDMV, it just sits there with a spinning circle. I've let it set for 5+ minutes before I finally just kill the Sage process. If you've got something you want me to try in my setup to help diagnose yours though, I'm willing to help.

Use fuzzy's external dvd/bd player plugin. Works great.

Big difference between a fix and a workaround.

In all seriousness, I have the same issue and never figured it out. I had to have subs on the movie causing the issue and ended up using the external player. I don't think you can fix it unless you have your decoder set up a specific way as someone else pointed out.

Yeah, I use TMT 5 already for 3D. I use SageTV for everything else. Once in a while I get discs with subtitles that cause problems. The only reason I was posting was to know how (if at all possible) to configure directshow to handle this right. I have a feeling its related to the sageTV demux; and, thought maybe there's a demux setting in the registry that might prevent this. Sometimes sageTV support gives out settings that aren't documented. For whatever it's worth I'll try contacting them.

As far as I know it is the format of the subtitles that sage has an issue with. I'll try converting to .mkv to see if that will work. I don't mind launching an external app to play subbed blu-rays, but I'd rather have sage do everything like you said. Granted, I have a whole 2 movies that are like that so it isn't that much of an issue, but annoying to say the least. I don't know why they don't just embed the subs in the actual video stream like most movies.
