HD-PVR - what a great device.

I recently switched from my two PVR1600's to two HD-PVR's. I used the drivers right from the latesat Hauppauge release and everything just worked. I coppied the guide from the 1600 to the HD-PVR and that was it. Instantly working and recording.

I did install one HD-PRV at a time and got it working then just added the second and did not remove the 1600's, there still available for capture.

I do have long channel switching times (STB is tuned before the picture is on the screen) and a moment or two of stuttering when the channel is changed, but I think that is ok.

Just thought I would post some positive feedback on this subject. But now I did, I guess I will have an eminent failure of some sort ...

Well I knew it, I defineltly cursed myself.

My wifes cat (Sorry Dog person) climbed in the server rack this morning and unplugged an HD-PVR. That started an all day event of trying to get both PVR's working again with no luck.

Tried every trick in the book, after an hour I started with HDWClear and thought everything would just work, well I now feel everyones pain with these boxes. They are now officialy in a storage bin for a later date or eBay which ever comes first.

It shouldn't be this difficult ...

BWT, I hope someone gets a good laugh form this.

Curious, why it was so difficult. I have 2 HD-PVR's and on rare occasions I've had one or the other get lost to my system. Usually a USB host issue.
Each and every time a simple reboot of the system along with rebooting the HD-PVR's has solved the issue.
Are you having trouble getting the system to recognize the HD-PVR, channel changing issue, or something else?

If it is channel changing via firewire issues are you using the unique device id, or simply the device # in your channel changing commands? If you use the unique device id it could eliminate issues when a reboot, or adding/removing USB devices may cause it to show up as a different USB device #. The unique id will be the same no matter where it lands on the USB host, so it won't matter which USB port you plug it into, or if you add/remove other USB devices.

I would have to agree with you, that was my question. Obviously I missed something. in short - I kept getting "No Signal" on the tv. Getting the device's to show up in Device manager was 123, adding a source to sage is well, 123. I could not get it to play/capture live tv.

I had two devices which worked flawlessly, hecne my original post, for over two months. after reconnecting one of the two devices I got No Signal displayed on the screen. After, almost a full day of T-Shooting I gave up. Simply not worth all of the effort to get them working again. Period. And if the same thing happend again, would I be in the same boat?

Anyway I sold them, $250. - not sure which is more upsetting, loosing $150 or not being able to record with 5.1. ...
