Changing Windows from 32bits to 64 bits...
This is more of a windows question than a sage question...

But can I change from a 32bit win7 to a 64 win7 and still use the same license key?

I got the upgrade kit of win 7 and it came with both 32 and 64 bit versions. I installed the 32 bit version because I needed firewire recording. Now that I have my prime (mostly) working.. I want to jump to 64bit to be able to maximize my memory and possibly use a ram disk/mirror mode cache to speed things up on the sage side.

I'm pretty sure I can't just upgrade.. but if I do a clean install... can I use the same license key since all the hardware will be the same...

Yes you can. As long as the same Sage TV license is only used on one PC.

Yes. Do a clean install and you are good to go.

In that case yes, the license code is the same for 32 or 64 bit.

The answer is yes because you purchased a package which contained both versions. If you were to purchase the OEM version brand new you are usually purchasing either/or 64bit/32bit. Only the special upgrade package which contains both versions uses a single license key for both.

The caveat is that this is from a 3 pack "home" edition.. I'm wondering if I re install and activate it will take another of my 3 uses...

More than 3 activations will require a call to Microsoft. But I have never had them deny me a key.

Maybe I'll just wait and see. It might be time to upgrade Sage anyway to something that uses DDR3 memory. It's like more than 1/2 the price of DDR2!

Do I really want to give up my firewire recording by going to 64bit?
Can I live with 3 cable card tuners which are about 95% stable?

I suppose I could always go back to my 32bit image if I really wanted to.

But I worked so hard (and long) to get firewire recording to work!

hmmm.. How much would it cost me to get a new core i5 (or maybe i3) with a new MB and 8ishGB of memory??

Now I'm just talking out loud...

Hey.. my thread got a new home! I guess it didn't really belong in the Sage software forum.. hmm.. forced relocation... ..Thanks?? andy??
