HD200 no audio with HDMI my solution

I purchased a brand new Samsung plasma 42 inch HD TV in December. Received my HD200 this week, hooked it up to the TV with HDMI. Beautiful picture, no sound. After trying all of the solutions I could find here I finally read the instructions to the TV. Samsung (at least my TV) does not support audio through the HDMI cable. There is a small plug next to the HDMI port on the TV that is labeled DVI audio in. It was in the center of a square black shape that looked like it might be for a special plug. I thought it was some type of special digital audio connection. Went to Best Buy, turns out it is a 3.5mm standard analog audio connection, just needed an adapter to go from 2 standard audio cables to 1 3.5mm plug.

What model TV do you have? Many Samsung sets have an option to set the input to either HDMI or DVI (I believe it is in the Edit Name option). If it is set to DVI, then it uses the analog audio in that you are now using. If set to HDMI, it will use the HDMI audio. The reason they do this is that there are PC video cards that are not quite correct in what they put out, and appear to send audio, without actually sending anything. The DVI option forces it to ignore the HDMI audio, and use the analog inputs instead.

HDMI on Samsung

It is a series 43 plasma. I just checked, there are 2 hdmi ports, the first is HDMI/DVI and the second is just HDMI. I am going to try the second port tomorrow. Thanks

That, or like I said, go into the menus and make sure it is set for HDMI, and not DVI. That should enable the HDMI Audio input.

Also make sure you are not trying to play a video/movie with DTS sound, which the HD200 will not decode.

Still no luck with sound on HDMI

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried the hdmi 2 port, no audio output. I don't think it is the file, it plays with the analog output so the HD200 must be decoding it ok. I am happy with the HDMI/Analog so I guess I will leave it like that for now. I may try another HDMI cable to see if that is the problem.

Did you try changing the input name setting on the tv itself?
