HD-PVR Driver

I am changing over my Sage server to Windows 7 64-Bit. I see talk on here from time to time about different drivers working best. I use DirecTv H23 receivers and Paterson Technology serial tuning. What is the best driver to use with the HD-PVR. I am currently using 1.5.7.0 with Win Xp Pro.

I think 1.5.7.0 is the latest, but just go to hauppage's website and download the latest. As for tuning, I think the H23 has an ethernet port. you may want to consider the HTTP tuner method instead of the Patterson device. I had a DIY serial<->USB cbale like the Patterson and I find the HTTP tuning to be a bit faster (but not much). It's one less wire to hookup and worry about.

I've been using Windows 7 64-bit for about six months now (I switched from XP 32-bit when I built a new machine). I am also using 1.5.7.0 and it has been quite stable. I did try upgrading to a newer version at one point but ran into some video quality issues (colors being off, video seeming "overly compressed", lagginess, etc.), so I quickly reverted to 1.5.7.0.

The colors can be addressed via the Sage properties file, but that newer driver was very unreliable for me so I went back to 1.5.7.0 as well.

What I really need is DirecTV to fix their audio dropout problem with 5.1 material, rather than updating the "pretty" of their interfaces.

FYI, At one time I had bad audio dropout problems with directv 5.1 also. It would be fine with 2 channel but bad with 5.1. Turns out after calling DirecTv service two or three times that the problem was really in my receiver. At the time I was using an ONKYO TX-5 something. After searching the internet I found out that my model of Onkyo receiver had a bug which caused audio dropouts with 5.1 channel audio from DirecTv. It worked fine with other source audio, just not DirecTv. I replaced the Receiver with a Denon and all was good. If you are using an older Onkyo by chance you might try another receiver just to see.

The receiver can help mask the problem, as some receivers choke on the data stream more than others, but the issue (apparently due to DirecTV's MPEG4 encoding process) is still there. The continuing thread over on dbstalk.com has more on the subject.

Has anyone tried out the 1.6.29353 drivers in the beta section for the HD-PVR? I am using the released version with only occasional problems (reset HD-PVR about 2-3 weeks).

I have DirecTV H23 and H24? receivers and have had no issues with 5.1 audio dropouts. I have been using 1.6.29277 since release (a few months?).....just a data point.
