what in the heck is SageDCT

I have been unable to bring myself to come to these forums since they announced the end of life as we know it (the purhcase by google)... but now my HDHR has gone to heck and I need to replace it.

Now they have a new Prime HDHR and I started researching weather to get that or the old DUAL. In all the posts they keep referring to SageDCT... I am unaware of what that is...I have sageTV version 7.1.5.. what is sagedct?

It's an addon that allows Sage to use cablecard tuners.

SageDCT is pure awesome.

It also happens to be a piece of software that lets the Prime talk to your Sage server.

Before getting too excited about the HDHR Prime, you should determine which channels, if any, your cable provider has flagged as "copy freely". Those are the only channels that you will be able to access in SageTV via SageDCT. Some cable providers, like BrightHouse Networks, do not flag any of their channels as copy freely. Even if your cable provider currently flags their channels copy freely, they can change their mind at any time. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's better to know what you are getting into.

Thanks all for the info... That lnk is exactly what I needed to fill in the holes. I have read a bunch already on the Prime and will need to read much more. As I understand it, the prime will work best using windwos Mediacenter 7 because of the DRM (my system is XP right now). BUT I can get anything tagged Copy Freely on my sagetv box on Windows xp.. sound about right?

I have Fios and I THINK most basic and extended channels are copy freely. I have no interest in the hbo/showtime type channels (or pay per view for that matter). I would be totally willing to switch to Comcast though if I had to.

it will be a few months before I can spend the time and money on any system upgrades (the server hardware is pretty stout but I am on XP afterall). I did pick up a used HDHR Dual for $65 on ebay..that will replace my old HDHR and work for the time being.

P.S. I currently have 2 SD stbs and 1 HD stb.. and that makes a huge mess in my data closet...err I mean my basement family room

I have FIOS and just added the HDHR Prime and SageDCT to my system. Everything is working great and all channels from my FIOS Extreme HD package is recordable (Copy Freely) so far. Now I have 3 tuners with one cable card. I'm gonna return the STB and sell my HD-PVR, they are no longer needed. I also have the original dual tuner HDHR, and combined with the new HDHR Prime, I have 5 tuners and couldn't be happier.

SageDCT removes the need to have Windows Media Center to use the HDHR Prime, which means you don't need to have Windows 7. I still suggest people use Windows 7 anyway as WinXP is just too old for an OS, 10 years old to be exact.
