Help troubleshooting HD100 freezes with Sage v7

Hi,

Hoping the community can help me troubleshoot frequent HD100 freezes after upgrading to Sage v7. A power cycle of the extender will bring it back into business until the next random freeze. The front LED lights continue to be lit and flicker in response to remote key presses. We've noticed that closed captioning stops about 30 seconds before the extender freezes ( or video output goes dark ).

The setup has run flawlessly for about 2 years on Sage v6.

The error message in the log indicate that a "ERROR: MiniUIClient receiver timed out waiting for response from the MiniClient!" followed by another timeout after about 30 seconds - "[MCSRReconnect@36f0c9] MCSR reconnect daemon timed out w/no reconnection, kill the UI!".

SageTV version 7.1.9.256
Java 1.6.0_29
OS Windows XP
HD100 with latest firmware
SageTV7.xml (version 7.1.9.6 )
JVM Heap max 512 MB.

The only plugins used are 'Commercial Detector', 'Commercial Detector UI', 'Comskip Playback', 'comskip', 'google weather' and 'sagex-api'.

Both 'server' and extender are plugged into the same switch. I've replaced the switch and network cables with no luck. Tried a different NIC as well with no success. There are no pertinent messages in the Windows event log and the hangs / freezes occur even when the machine is not recording or commercial detecting. The freezes do appear to be random and only started after the upgrade to Sage v7.

Any suggestions ? What can i do to to eliminate those timeouts ?

Rupert

Try deleting the client.properties file for that HD100 extender. Fire it up and use it with no plugins first. Add them and test one at a time. Since this was an upgrade deleting the .properties file and re-setting it up may help. (The .properties file is in the "clients" folder with the mac address followed by .properties.)

Thought that (deleting the .properties file and disabling all the plugins) did the trick but unfortunately the time outs continue. They are not as frequent though. Have only had one hang per day so far as opposed to as many as 2 to 3 per hour previously.

Could it be that my HD100 cannot handle v7 ?

HD100 works fine with version 7

My HD100 has been working fine with version 7 of Sage. In the past I did have a problem with seemingly random bouts of frequent lockups. That problem turned out to be a bad portion of the hard drive in the media server. Replacing the hard drive resolved the issue and it has not come back since.

Had four lockups while watching the AMA's. Extremely irritating.
Thanks for the info regarding a possible bad hard drive. I'll try to run a diag on my media server hard disk.

Are the caps ok in the power supply? Maybe they are on the verge of bursting.

I have that question in the back of my mind. I replaced them a few years ago but maybe the new ones are going as well. I'll open up the HD100 today or tomorrow.

For the time being, i started with a fresh install of v7 and crossing my fingers.

Update:
Checked the CAP's and they look fine. Took some pictures and uploaded to a few friends with more electronics experience, and they concur.

Hangs still occur but it would appear to be an extender problem and not an issue with the sagetv software.

At this point, i am going to pursue a couple of different avenues

a) Go back to Sage6 on XP.

b) Install Sage7 on Win7.

Reverted back to Sage v6 on XP and no extender freezes.

So, at least one vote against HD100 with v7 on XP.

The only time I have lockups with the HD100 is when I try to run something it was never designed to run, such as Blu-ray. The HD200 and HD300 have no problems, but the HD100 locks. I just watch other stuff on there with no issues.

I had similar issues with my HD-100 extenders freezing. It was also a hard drive issue. Once I replaced the drive, I've had smooth sailing again.
